It supports the calculation, tracking, and analysis of salary distributions, compensation limits, and available research salary capacity to help ensure compliance with institutional policies, sponsor requirements, and accurate effort planning.
Purpose and Scope
The Institutional Base Salary (IBS) Dashboard is designed to provide a centralized view of employee compensation data used for research administration, salary planning, and compliance monitoring. The dashboard enables users to calculate and track Institutional Base Salary (IBS), summer research salary, and other compensation components while providing visibility into salary distributions, available research salary capacity, and sponsor specific compensation limits. It supports institutional reporting, proposal development, and post award financial management by helping users evaluate salary allocations, monitor compliance with university and sponsor policies, and make informed budgeting decisions. The dashboard includes summary metrics, detailed employee level information, and supporting data for internal analysis and reporting.
Data Sources and Structure
The data used in this dashboard is provided by the Budget & Operations Office within the Division of Research. The dataset includes employee compensation information used to calculate and track Institutional Base Salary (IBS), summer research salary, and other compensation components. The dashboard is expected to be updated on a quarterly basis to reflect the most current compensation data available for analysis, reporting, and compliance monitoring.
Key Metrics and Visualization
Key metrics include Faculty/Staff Base Salary, Longevity Pay, Administrative Supplement and Other Assignments Stipend, Total University Compensation, Institutional Base Salary (IBS), NSF Total Compensation, Total Compensation Available, Maximum Summer Salary Available etc. Together, these metrics provide a comprehensive view of employee compensation and support the calculation of allowable research salary, sponsor compliance, and effort planning.
Filters and Slicers:
- Edition/Fiscal Year: Allows users to select the edition for viewing relevant data. By default, latest is selected.
- Position Status: Toggles between filled and vacant positions; default is set to show all.
- EID: Allows selection of an individual employee ID to review salary details.
- Employee: Allows selection of an individual employee name to review salary details.
- Committed Months: Filters training records by employee committed months duration.
- Job Title: Filters salary records by employment position title.
- Home Department: Filters the data by specific department for a focused view.
- College/School: Filters the data by specific colleges or schools for a focused view.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Total Employees & # of Employees By Type: Total number of UTRGV employees recorded on salary roster by committed months or faculty staff type.
- Total Positions & # of Positions By Type: Total number of job positions recorded on salary roster by permanent temporary job type.
- Type of Payment/Salary by College/School: Total compensations by payment type and ranks colleges and schools according to amounts.
Visuals:
- Compensation College Breakdown: Displays the distribution of compensation amounts across colleges/schools to provide a comparative view of salary allocation by academic unit.
- Type of Payments List: Provides a comprehensive view of total amounts by each payment type to summarize the distribution of compensation components across the institution.
Overall Functionality: The Overview page provides a high level summary of institutional compensation data, including total amounts by payment type, employee compensation breakdowns by employment category, and compensation distribution across colleges/schools. Users can review overall compensation trends, compare salary allocations across organizational units, and gain insights into different compensation components to support salary analysis, planning, and reporting.

- Longevity Pay: Total longevity compensation amount provided to eligible faculty and staff employees based on institutional service requirements.
- Administrative Supplement Stipend: Additional compensation amount provided to employees for assigned administrative responsibilities or supplemental duties.
- Other Assignment Stipend: Additional compensation amount provided for other assigned duties, responsibilities, or special assignments outside of regular salary payments.
- Research Summary Salary: Estimated summer research salary amount calculated for 9 month term faculty based on their institutional salary and committed research effort.
- IBS Salary: Salary amount eligible to be included in Institutional Base Salary calculations based on applicable compensation policies and appointment criteria.
- Total University Compensation: Total compensation amount paid by the university, including base salary and other eligible compensation components.
- Max Summer Salary Available: Estimated maximum summer salary amount available for 9 month term faculty based on their IBS monthly salary rate.
- Total NSF Compensation: Estimated total NSF compensation amount combining university paid compensation and up to two months of NSF allowable salary support.
- Total Compensation Available: Total available compensation amount combining total university compensation and estimated research summer salary.
