User Guide: Completing the Key/Senior Personnel Section in ARGO-SPI
Purpose: The Key/Senior Personnel section captures the roles, responsibilities, and shared credit distribution among project investigators. This data helps recognize contributions from all departments and colleges involved.
Sections and Field Requirements
- Role (Required)
- Select the role of the individual in the project. Options include:
- Principal Investigator (PI): The main leader responsible for project execution. Only one PI is allowed per proposal.
- Co-PI: Co-Investigators who collaborate with the PI on the project.
- Key Personnel: Significant contributors who support the project but do not hold PI or Co-PI roles.
- Note: There can be multiple Co-PIs and Key Personnel on a proposal.
- % of Shared Credit (Required)
- Enter the percentage of shared credit attributed to this investigator.
- Guidelines for Shared Credit:
- Shared Credit reflects the investigator’s intellectual or programmatic contribution to the project, not the budget allocation.
- Total shared credit across all investigators must add up to 100%.
- Shared credit distribution must be agreed upon by all investigators during the proposal preparation stage and cannot generally be changed post-award unless an investigator leaves the project or UTRGV.
- Allocating shared credit allows departments and colleges to attribute research productivity fairly across individuals involved in the project.
- Name
- Automatically populates with the selected individual's name (e.g., Arya Singh).
- Title
- Displays the individual’s title within UTRGV (e.g., Assistant VP of Research Data & Analytics).
- Department/Unit Name
- Shows the department or unit to which the individual belongs, with department code included for tracking purposes.
- Lists the individual's email address for communication and coordination purposes.
- Organized Research Units (ORU)
- Select the ORU associated with this investigator, if applicable.
- Why select an ORU?
- ORU selection determines the IDC (Indirect Cost) return distribution based on shared credit percentages. IDC distribution is aligned with the individual’s ORU affiliation and enhances visibility for research contributions by organized units.
- Definition: An ORU is a research center, institute, or laboratory that complements the instructional and research goals of UTRGV, supporting collaboration across departments and colleges.
- Principal Investigator (PI) Check for NIH-Specific Projects
- Select this box if all participants need to be recognized as Principal Investigators when submitted to NIH (National Institutes of Health).
- This option ensures compliance with the NIH Guidelines for Multiple Principal Investigators.
