Data Sources and Structure

The data in the dashboard is sourced from UTRGV’s Student Information System (Banner) and reports from the SAIR. The dashboard integrates data about student enrollment, academic progress, and degree completion to offer a holistic view of doctoral students’ journeys. The structure is designed to filter information by college, department, and program, enabling targeted insights.

  • SAIR Doctoral Reports (Fall 2015 to current term)
  • Banner Data for student records, academic standing, and degree progress

Navigation and User Instructions

The dashboard consists of four key pages, each focusing on a different aspect of student progress. Users can interact with filters to refine the data by department, program, or specific student status.

  • Dissertation: View students' earned dissertation hours, with breakdowns by program.
  • Academic Standing: Review students’ academic standings, highlighting those in good standing or on probation/suspension.
  • Degree Awarded: Analyze the number of degrees awarded per academic year and the time to degree completion.
  • Student Information: Access detailed student records, including program, coursework status, and total earned hours.

Navigation is facilitated through drop-down filters, enabling users to select specific colleges, departments, and programs for more focused insights.

Key Metrics and Visualizations

The dashboard uses several visual tools to present data clearly and effectively:

  • Dissertation Hours: Bar and pie charts display the number of students and their accumulated dissertation credit hours.
  • Academic Standing: Bar charts show the distribution of students by academic standing (e.g., good standing, probation), broken down by program.
  • Degree Awarded: Charts display the number of doctoral degrees awarded each year, along with the average time to degree completion.
  • Detailed Student Information: A comprehensive table lists each student’s ID, program, email, total earned hours, and coursework status.

This dashboard is a valuable tool for tracking doctoral student performance, identifying trends, and ensuring students are on track to complete their programs.
