Doctoral Students Info Dashboard
Purpose and Scope
The Doctoral Students Information Dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of UTRGV's doctoral student population, tracking key academic progress indicators such as dissertation credit hours, academic standing, degrees awarded, and detailed student information. It is designed to help administrators, program coordinators, and faculty monitor student progress and identify areas where students may need additional support to successfully complete their programs.
- Dissertation Progress: Tracks the accumulation of dissertation credit hours for students actively working on their dissertations.
- Academic Standing: Monitors the academic standing of students, highlighting those in good standing and those on probation or suspension.
- Degrees Awarded: Displays the number of doctoral degrees awarded over time, along with the average time to degree completion.
- Student Information: Provides detailed records of each doctoral student, including program details, coursework status, and earned hours.
Data Sources and Structure
The data in the dashboard is sourced from UTRGV’s Student Information System (Banner) and reports from the SAIR. The dashboard integrates data about student enrollment, academic progress, and degree completion to offer a holistic view of doctoral students’ journeys. The structure is designed to filter information by college, department, and program, enabling targeted insights.

Key Metrics and Visualizations
The dashboard uses several visual tools to present data clearly and effectively:
- Dissertation Hours: Bar and pie charts display the number of students and their accumulated dissertation credit hours.
- Academic Standing: Bar charts show the distribution of students by academic standing (e.g., good standing, probation), broken down by program.
- Degree Awarded: Charts display the number of doctoral degrees awarded each year, along with the average time to degree completion.
- Detailed Student Information: A comprehensive table lists each student’s ID, program, email, total earned hours, and coursework status.
This dashboard is a valuable tool for tracking doctoral student performance, identifying trends, and ensuring students are on track to complete their programs.

Filters and Slicers:
- College, Department: This slicer allows users to filter data by selecting specific colleges or departments.
- Program: Filters data by specific doctoral programs within UTRGV.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- # of Student IDs (163): This card displays the total number of students who have accumulated dissertation credit hours.
Visuals:
- Bar Chart - Current Students Earned Dissertation Hours: This chart shows the number of students categorized by the range of dissertation credit hours earned. It helps identify how many students are in different stages of their dissertation work.
- Pie Chart - # of Students by Program: This pie chart breaks down the distribution of students across various programs, showing the percentage each program contributes to the overall dissertation student population.
- Stacked Bar Chart - # of Students by Earned Dissertation Hours and Program: This visual shows the distribution of students within each program based on their accumulated dissertation hours.
Overall Functionality: This page is designed to track the dissertation hours earned by current doctoral students, allowing users to assess how far students have progressed in their dissertation work. Users can filter by program or department to view trends specific to their area of interest.

- Bar Chart - Good Standing (GS) by Program: This chart shows the number of students in good academic standing, broken down by program. The length of the bar corresponds to the number of students in good standing.
- Bar Chart - Other Academic Standing by Program: Displays students not in good standing, including those on probation, suspension, or academic warning, organized by program.
- Table - Academic Standing by Program: This matrix table presents a breakdown of students by program, showing the number in various academic standings such as "Good Standing," "Probation," or "Suspension."
Overall Functionality: This tab helps administrators monitor the academic progress of doctoral students, identifying those who are in good standing versus those who may need support or intervention. Users can filter by program and department to focus on specific groups of students.

- Pie Chart - Degree Awarded by Program: A breakdown of the percentage of degrees awarded per program, providing insights into which programs are graduating the most students.
- Matrix Table - Degree Awarded by Year and Program: Provides detailed information on the number of students who earned their degree, broken down by academic year and program.
Overall Functionality: This tab provides an overview of doctoral degrees awarded, helping users assess the distribution of graduates by program and the average time to degree completion. It is useful for tracking graduation trends over time.
Filters and Slicers:
- Graduated?: Filters the report to display data for students who have graduated, are pending review, or those who are still enrolled.
- College, Department: Filters data by specific colleges or departments.
- Program: Filters the student information by specific programs.

- # of Student IDs (1445): Displays the total number of doctoral students being tracked on this page.
Visuals:
- Table - Detailed Student Information: This table lists individual student information, including Student ID, Name, UTRGV email, Program Code, Program, Concentration, Course Work Status, and Total Earned Hours. The data can be filtered by program and department, providing a detailed view of each student's academic progress.
Overall Functionality: The Student Information tab provides a detailed overview of each doctoral student, showing their program, coursework status, and dissertation progress. It is a drill-down page for more granular insights into individual student performance and status.
Access and Support
Access to the dashboard is restricted to authorized personnel, including PIs, department administrators, and financial leads who manage sponsored projects. Users can log in through the institution's secure login system to access the dashboard.
