Research Pathways and SPI Questions

Purpose and Scope

The UTRGV Research Pathways and SPI Questions Report dashboard consolidates and visualizes data from proposal submissions, tracking research pathways, compliance (SPI questions), and proposal statuses. It provides insights into submission patterns, funding distribution, sponsor engagement, and compliance completion to support informed decision-making for research administration.

Data Sources and Structure

The dashboard pulls data from the ARGO system, which manages proposal submissions at UTRGV. It organizes information by research pathways, sponsors, fiscal years, departments, and compliance responses. The data is structured to allow drill-downs and filtering by various dimensions like proposal ID, stage, and pathway.

Navigation and User Instructions

The dashboard is divided into five tabs:

  • Pathways Summary: Overview of proposals by research pathways and organizational units.
  • Pathways by Sponsors: Breakdown of research pathways by sponsors.
  • Pathways by Submissions: Details of individual submissions, showing pathway coverage.
  • SPI Questions: Compliance status and response monitoring.
  • Proposal Details: Comprehensive view of all proposal data, including funding and question details. Users can navigate via filters and slicers for targeted analysis.

Key Metrics and Visualizations

  • Total Proposals, Researchers, and Funding: KPIs showing overall research activity.
  • Tables and Charts: Visual breakdowns by pathways, sponsors, and compliance responses, with interactive elements highlighting incomplete submissions and missing data.
  • Compliance Status: Visuals monitor proposal compliance based on SPI questions and completion status.

User Manual: Research Pathways & SPI Questions

Filters and Slicers:

  • Submission FY: Filters the data by fiscal year of the proposal submission.
  • Proposal ID: Allows users to filter by specific proposal IDs.
  • Proposal Stage: Filters by the stage of the proposal (e.g., Submitted).
  • Research Pathways: Allows filtering based on the research focus area of the proposals.
  • College/School/VP Unit, Department, Employee: Filters proposals by the specific organizational unit or individual.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Total Proposals: Displays the total number of proposals submitted.
  • Total Requested $: Shows the total requested funding across all proposals.
  • # of Researchers: Displays the total number of researchers involved in the proposals.
  • %: The percentage breakdown of researchers across different research pathways.
