Purpose and Scope

The Award and Proposal Summary Dashboard provides a comprehensive view of research proposals and awarded funds across various colleges, departments, and sponsors at UTRGV. It enables users to track funding requests, awards, and trends, offering insights into the success of research initiatives.

Explore Dashboard

Data Sources and Structure

The dashboard integrates data from research proposal and award systems, including federal, state, and private sponsors. Data is structured by fiscal year, college, department, faculty, and sponsor, providing a granular view of both submitted proposals and awarded funds.

Navigation and User Instructions 

Users can filter data by College/School, Department, Faculty, Fiscal Year, Month, CFDA, Federal Agency, and Sponsor. Each page offers a unique focus: proposals and awards by college, department, and sponsor. Use slicers to customize data views and explore details interactively.

Key Metrics and Visualizations

Key metrics include Total Requested and Total Funded amounts, presented through cards and bar charts. Tables detail proposals and awards by fiscal year, department, and sponsor, allowing for easy tracking of research activity and funding outcomes across the institution.

User Manual: Awards and Proposal Summary

Filters and Slicers:

  • College/School: Allows users to filter by the college or school to narrow the results by academic unit.
  • Department: Users can filter by specific departments to focus on proposal and award activities.
  • Faculty: Enables filtering by faculty members to see the data specific to individuals.
  • FY (Fiscal Year): Filters data by the fiscal year, allowing users to compare and contrast different years.
  • Month: Allows users to filter proposals and awards by the specific month of activity.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Total Requested: Displays the total dollar amount requested in proposals submitted, providing insight into how much funding is being sought ($77.2M in the screenshot).
  • Total Funded: Displays the total dollar amount awarded to date, showing how much funding has been successfully secured ($7.1M in the screenshot).

Cards:

  • Total Requested $: Shows the total funding requested in all proposals submitted.
  • Total Funded $: Displays the total amount of funding awarded from submitted proposals.

Visuals:

  • Proposals and Awards by College (Bar Chart): Shows a comparison of the total amounts requested and awarded across different colleges. Users can hover over the bars to get detailed insights about each college.
    • Proposals: Represented by a green bar.
    • Awards: Represented by a gray bar.
  • Proposals and Awards Table: Displays detailed information about the number of proposals submitted, the total amount requested, the number of awards, and the total amount funded for each college and department.

Overall Functionality:

The Summary page provides a high-level overview of proposals and awards across the entire university. Users can get an at-a-glance understanding of how much funding has been requested and awarded by different academic units. The filters allow users to drill down into more specific data.

Filters and Slicers:

  • College/School: Filters the proposals based on a selected college or school.
  • Department: Users can filter by specific departments within a college.
  • Faculty: Filters by individual faculty members to see their proposal activity.
  • FY (Fiscal Year): Allows filtering by fiscal year to see proposal submissions by year.
  • Month: Provides an option to view proposals submitted in a specific month.
  • CFDA, Federal Agency, Sponsor: Additional filters that allow users to refine the data by specific program numbers (CFDA), federal agencies, and sponsors.

Visuals:

  • Proposals by College/Department (Table): Displays detailed proposal information for each department within a college. The table lists the total requested dollar amounts by fiscal year and department/faculty, allowing users to see the distribution of proposals over time. Each row represents a department or faculty member and provides details such as the total requested amount for each fiscal year.

Overall Functionality:

This page allows users to track the number of proposals submitted and the total amount requested by various colleges and departments. Users can explore the proposal activity of specific faculty members and compare proposal submission trends over the years.

  • Same as Page 2, allowing users to filter by College, Department, Faculty, Fiscal Year, Month, CFDA, Federal Agency, and Sponsor.

  • Awards by College/Department (Table): This table provides detailed award information for each department within a college, showing the number of awards received and the total dollar amount awarded by fiscal year. The table allows users to track which departments have successfully secured funding and the amount awarded over time.

This page focuses on the award outcomes, helping users see how much funding has been secured by each department and faculty member. It enables comparison of award trends over the years, providing a clear view of the success rate in securing funds.

Page 4: Proposals by Sponsor

Filters and Slicers:

  • College/School: Filters the proposals based on the college or school.
  • Department: Filters the data by departments.
  • Faculty: Filters by specific faculty members.
  • FY (Fiscal Year): Allows filtering by fiscal year.
  • Month: Enables filtering by the month.
  • CFDA, Federal Agency, Sponsor: Filters to refine the proposals based on CFDA codes, federal agencies, and specific sponsors.

Visuals:

  • Proposals by Sponsor (Table): Displays detailed proposal information grouped by sponsor, showing the total requested amount by sponsor for each fiscal year. This table helps users track which sponsors are supporting the most proposals, allowing users to explore proposal trends by sponsor over multiple years.

Overall Functionality:

This page helps users analyze proposal submissions based on the sponsoring agencies. It gives insight into how much funding is being requested from different sponsors, making it easier to identify key funding partners over time.

Filters and Slicers:

  • Same as Page 4, allowing users to filter by College, Department, Faculty, Fiscal Year, Month, CFDA, Federal Agency, and Sponsor.

Visuals:

  • Awards by Sponsor (Table): Provides a detailed breakdown of awarded funding by sponsor, showing how much funding has been awarded by each sponsor for every fiscal year. Users can explore the data to see which sponsors are providing the most funding and which departments or colleges are benefiting from those awards.

Overall Functionality:

This page allows users to focus on award outcomes by sponsor, enabling analysis of which sponsors are most active in awarding funding to the university. Users can track award trends and identify long-term sponsor relationships.

Access and Support

Access to the dashboard is restricted to authorized personnel, including PIs, department administrators, and financial leads who manage sponsored projects. Users can log in through the institution's secure login system to access the dashboard.
