Purpose and Scope
The Award and Proposal Summary Dashboard provides a comprehensive view of research proposals and awarded funds across various colleges, departments, and sponsors at UTRGV. It enables users to track funding requests, awards, and trends, offering insights into the success of research initiatives.
Data Sources and Structure
The dashboard integrates data from research proposal and award systems, including federal, state, and private sponsors. Data is structured by fiscal year, college, department, faculty, and sponsor, providing a granular view of both submitted proposals and awarded funds.
Key Metrics and Visualizations
Key metrics include Total Requested and Total Funded amounts, presented through cards and bar charts. Tables detail proposals and awards by fiscal year, department, and sponsor, allowing for easy tracking of research activity and funding outcomes across the institution.
User Manual: Awards and Proposal Summary
Filters and Slicers:
- College/School: Allows users to filter by the college or school to narrow the results by academic unit.
- Department: Users can filter by specific departments to focus on proposal and award activities.
- Faculty: Enables filtering by faculty members to see the data specific to individuals.
- FY (Fiscal Year): Filters data by the fiscal year, allowing users to compare and contrast different years.
- Month: Allows users to filter proposals and awards by the specific month of activity.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Total Requested: Displays the total dollar amount requested in proposals submitted, providing insight into how much funding is being sought ($77.2M in the screenshot).
- Total Funded: Displays the total dollar amount awarded to date, showing how much funding has been successfully secured ($7.1M in the screenshot).
Cards:
- Total Requested $: Shows the total funding requested in all proposals submitted.
- Total Funded $: Displays the total amount of funding awarded from submitted proposals.
Visuals:
- Proposals and Awards by College (Bar Chart): Shows a comparison of the total amounts requested and awarded across different colleges. Users can hover over the bars to get detailed insights about each college.
- Proposals: Represented by a green bar.
- Awards: Represented by a gray bar.
- Proposals and Awards Table: Displays detailed information about the number of proposals submitted, the total amount requested, the number of awards, and the total amount funded for each college and department.
Overall Functionality:
The Summary page provides a high-level overview of proposals and awards across the entire university. Users can get an at-a-glance understanding of how much funding has been requested and awarded by different academic units. The filters allow users to drill down into more specific data.

- Department: Users can filter by specific departments within a college.
- Faculty: Filters by individual faculty members to see their proposal activity.
- FY (Fiscal Year): Allows filtering by fiscal year to see proposal submissions by year.

- CFDA, Federal Agency, Sponsor: Additional filters that allow users to refine the data by specific program numbers (CFDA), federal agencies, and sponsors.
