Why UTRGV?
I didn't want to be another number. When you don't have a good rapport with your professors, it's easy to attend class and go through the motions. At UTRGV, the professors know you by your name and have a one-on-one relationship that makes you want to do more with your education. UTRGV faculty genuinely care for your success and always lend a helping hand. 

What made you decide on your current major?
I've known I wanted to be a reporter ever since middle school. I was always curious, loved learning new things and wanted to know the facts. Once I realized I could make a career out of it and inform others, I signed up. 

What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to have the opportunity to work behind the scenes at one of the Valley's local news stations. When I have gained the experience, I will pursue a reporting position. This business is tough to break into, which is part of the appeal to me, but it can take you anywhere. At any point, you could end up in a different state or country, so I'm excited to see where it takes me. 

What are you involved in on and off campus?
I am a reporter for the university's news station, UTRGV TV. Every week the reporters go out everywhere in the Valley to find stories and put together a newscast. This is where I stopped looking at a textbook and learned from real experience. Sometimes the best way to learn is to go out there and practice it.

What is your biggest accomplishment to date?
I have been told by students that they like my stories. There have been people I interviewed who told me they want to see me on the news one day. To me, being seen as a professional reporter and not a student running around with a camera is a great accomplishment. I have gained the respect of people through my work and that is a great feeling. 

What advice do you have for future students?
There will be times of self-doubt and that is perfectly fine, so don't freak out. Don't let that doubt consume you and keep you from reaching your goals. Whenever you have a moment of confidence, relish in it and use it as fuel to continue.
