Why UTRGV?
The ability to earn my degree through such a strong music program while staying close to my family and loved ones truly makes this experience unlike any other. Being able to remain home made my transition to college almost seamless and allowed me to focus fully on my studies and personal growth—without having to sacrifice much of anything.
What made you decide on your current major?
Music has been the one thing I’ve excelled in throughout my life. I want to share the same joy and passion I experienced from my middle and high school band directors with my future students.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After completing my bachelor’s degree, I plan to continue my education by pursuing a master’s degree in music or begin teaching as a band director at the middle or high school level. Ultimately, I want to teach, inspire, and motivate others through music.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
The UTRGV School of Music faculty are some of the most inspiring, selfless, and enjoyable people you could ever learn from. They’ve made a huge difference in my education and growth as a musician.
Beyond that, I’m grateful that UTRGV has made my education financially accessible. I haven’t had to face the financial burdens that often come with earning a college degree, and that has allowed me to focus entirely on learning and performing.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
To me, being a Vaquero means having a strong and burning passion for doing what you love—and pushing yourself beyond what you thought you were capable of.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Having access to so many strong neighboring school districts has been invaluable as an aspiring educator. I’ve already had the opportunity to work with two local high schools, gaining hands-on experience, building networks, and learning more about the vibrant band community here in the Valley.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Enjoy your education. Don’t feel pressured to follow a path that isn’t right for you—focus on what makes you happy and fulfilled.
