Why UTRGV?
UTRGV is a university made up of many hardworking individuals who strive for a better future. That is why I knew it was the right place for me. What I have learned about UTRGV, and its people, is that they are always willing to lend a helping hand when you need it most. The community in the RGV is one of the most welcoming you'll encounter, and it's hard to find this kind of warmth elsewhere. Not only that, but the education at UTRGV is among the best in Texas. Combining these two factors makes it difficult for other universities to compete.

What made you decide on your current major?
Growing up in a family of educators, I never initially considered that path. However, in my sophomore year of high school I realized that, even though the pay may not be high, the reward of making a lasting impact on children’s lives is irreplaceable. I chose early childhood education because those first years are crucial for a child's cognitive, social, and emotional development. I want to be part of that growth and provide children with a safe, nurturing, and happy environment where they can thrive.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
Upon completing my major, I would love to pursue a master’s degree to deepen and expand my knowledge in education, while also securing a full-time job to support myself.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
As a first-generation student, I had little knowledge of college life and had to navigate my journey alone during my first year. However, after I got a position as a student assistant, I discovered the many opportunities UTRGV has to offer. I realized that there is always someone ready to help, whether it's an advisor, professor, or staff member, they’re ready to guide you through every step of the way.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero is something that will always be a part of me, as it represents hard work, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to overcoming any challenge we set for ourselves.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Thanks to UTRGV, I was able to land a job at the Center for Student Involvement, where I've had the opportunity to connect with amazing people and develop valuable skills. These experiences will not only support my professional growth but will also positively impact my personal life.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
The best advice I can give for anyone pursuing this degree is to never give up. Education is challenging but incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. Take it day by day, and while some days will be tough, the positive impact you have on children will make it all worthwhile.
