I chose UTRGV because it offers a supportive environment with endless opportunities for growth as an undergraduate. The professors are passionate about what they teach and genuinely care about student success. UTRGV provides hands-on experiences, internship opportunities, and a wide range of programs that help students explore their interests and build valuable skills. It’s a place where I feel motivated to push myself to try new things and prepare for the future.
What made you decide on your current major?
I chose my major because I’ve always loved the power of storytelling and how it connects people. I’m fascinated by how media can shape our perspectives, bring communities together, and spark real change. The idea of sharing stories, capturing meaningful moments, and influencing how ideas are shared truly inspired me. I wanted to follow a path that challenges me creatively while allowing me to impact how information is communicated to others.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After completing my major, I hope to build a career in media where I can tell impactful stories, create meaningful content, and inspire others. I see myself contributing by bringing fresh perspectives, amplifying important voices, and making a lasting impact through the power of storytelling.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I like most about UTRGV is how welcoming and supportive it feels. The professors genuinely care about their students and are always willing to help, which makes a big difference when things get challenging. I also love the opportunities to get involved—through classes, events, or organizations. It’s a place where I’ve been able to grow, meet great people, and find new interests I never expected.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means showing resilience, staying determined, and always striving for personal growth. It’s about challenging yourself to reach your full potential, facing obstacles head-on, and learning from every experience along the way.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Thanks to UTRGV, I’ve discovered chances to get involved in meaningful community service projects, internships, and leadership programs. The university’s strong ties to local organizations have helped me apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to real-life situations. Volunteering, attending networking events, and participating in community-based projects have been instrumental in my professional and personal development.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Stay curious and open-minded throughout your academic journey. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, try new things, and get involved in activities outside of the classroom. Build a strong support system with friends, mentors, and professors to help you stay motivated. Most importantly, believe in yourself—when things get tough, trust that your hard work and dedication will pay off in the end.
