Why UTRGV?
I chose UTRGV because it was close to home, which allowed me to stay connected with my family. It was also recommended by people I trust who spoke highly of the university’s programs and supportive environment.
What made you decide on your current major?
I chose civil engineering because I’ve always enjoyed building things—even as a kid using Legos and blocks. I’ve also been fascinated by the design and structure of buildings, and I want to learn how they’re made. My goal is to use those skills to give back to my community by helping create meaningful and lasting structures.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After graduation, I hope to find a stable and fulfilling job in civil engineering where I can give back to my community. I want to help bring people’s ideas to life—whether it’s designing homes, public spaces, or infrastructure—and make a positive impact through my work.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I like most about UTRGV is how welcoming and understanding the people are, especially toward students from different countries or backgrounds. There’s a strong sense of community here, and it feels like a place where you’re truly supported.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means taking pride in where I come from and where I’m headed. It’s about resilience, working hard, and using every opportunity to grow—not just for myself, but for the people and communities around me. It’s about being part of something bigger.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has opened doors for me to connect with others through volunteer work and student organizations. It’s helped me discover new interests and shaped the way I see my role in the community. I’ve had the chance to work with people who share similar goals, and it’s been inspiring.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help and take advantage of the resources and support systems UTRGV offers. Surround yourself with people who motivate you, stay focused on your goals, and remember why you started. Growth takes time, but every step matters—just keep going.
