Why UTRGV?
I chose to attend UTRGV because of its strong sense of community and how welcoming and friendly everyone is. This university feels like home, and it allows me to stay close to my family while pursuing my education. At UTRGV, I believe there’s a unique blend of academic excellence and cultural pride that you won’t find anywhere else.

What made you decide on your current major?
I initially started as a finance major because of my interest in numbers and analyzing data and stocks. However, I later switched to accounting after realizing how many opportunities it provides. I’ve learned that through accounting, many doors open to various career paths and industries.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After completing my bachelor’s degree, I plan to pursue a Master’s in Accounting and become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). My goal is to work for one of the Big Four accounting firms to gain valuable experience, and eventually, start my own business or firm. I also want to use my knowledge to help others make informed financial decisions and contribute to my community’s economic growth.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I love most about UTRGV is the campus atmosphere, the culture, and the endless opportunities it offers. The professors and diverse programs truly care about student success and are always willing to provide support and guidance. UTRGV is a place where students from all backgrounds can grow, learn, and thrive.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
To me, being a Vaquero means strength, resilience, and pride in our community. It’s about working hard, overcoming challenges, and carrying forward the values of unity and perseverance that define the Rio Grande Valley.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has opened many doors for me, especially through my involvement on campus and in the community. One significant opportunity was when my advisor introduced me to the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program, where I was able to help low-income families complete their income taxes. It was a rewarding experience that allowed me to apply what I’ve learned in class while making a positive impact on others.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
My advice for fellow students is to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Network, make friends, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Remember that if one door closes, another will open—so never give up. Every experience, whether big or small, brings you closer to your goals.
