Why UTRGV?
I chose UTRGV because it allowed me to stay close to my family, which has always been a priority for me. I’m very close to them, and while I was excited to pursue my academic goals, I wasn’t ready to move far from home. UTRGV offered the perfect balance by being just a short drive away. Beyond that, I was really impressed by the opportunities UTRGV provides, from its strong academic programs to its focus on student success and community engagement. I quickly realized that this university is committed to supporting its students, and it felt like the ideal place for me to grow both personally and academically.

What made you decide on your current major?
I’ve been interested in marketing for as long as I can remember, even before I fully understood the field. Growing up, I was always captivated by advertisements—whether it was Super Bowl commercials, billboards, or radio ads. I found myself analyzing how they were crafted and how they captured my attention. I loved the idea of creating something that could influence people and leave a lasting impression. Initially, I entered UTRGV as an entrepreneurship major because I knew I wanted to work in business, but after taking my first marketing class, I realized that marketing was what I was truly passionate about. The creativity, strategy, and ability to connect with people through different mediums really excited me. I knew then that marketing was the perfect fit for me, and I’ve been all in ever since.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After completing my BBA, I plan to pursue a master’s degree in marketing to further expand my knowledge and refine my skills. I am passionate about sports marketing and excited by the opportunities it offers, especially the chance to interact with people and be part of such an exciting industry. Once I complete my education, I’m eager to enter the workforce and apply what I’ve learned. My goal is to continue learning throughout my career and contribute to the evolving landscape of marketing, particularly within the sports industry.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I love most about UTRGV is the abundance of opportunities it offers. The faculty here truly care about the success of their students and are dedicated to providing valuable opportunities for growth. I’ve been fortunate to study abroad, participate in competitions that allowed me to travel outside of the state, and even secure an on-campus job with the RCVCOBE marketing department, where I’m gaining invaluable experience. UTRGV offers so many chances to grow, and I’m always excited to take advantage of them.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means embodying integrity and appreciating the strong sense of culture that surrounds UTRGV. Being part of this university has helped me value the community and the opportunities provided to students. There’s something special about being part of a place that not only prioritizes academic excellence but also celebrates the rich culture of the Rio Grande Valley. Being a Vaquero fills me with pride, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to grow and contribute to this unique community.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has given me great opportunities to connect with my community through student organizations and my on-campus internship. These experiences have helped me collaborate with others, gain hands-on experience, and discover new goals and passions, especially in marketing.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
My advice for fellow students is to believe in yourself and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Get involved in as many activities as you can, and make sure to interact with both students and staff. There are so many opportunities all around you, and by staying open to them, you can truly make the most of your time at UTRGV.
