Why UTRGV?
I chose UTRGV because it offers the degree I wanted while allowing me to stay close to home. It’s one of the biggest universities in Texas, yet it still feels personal and connected. Being able to get a quality education while staying near my girlfriend and family made it the right choice for me.
What made you decide on your current major?
I originally planned to become an EMT, but I realized the medical field wasn’t for me. With only two weeks to choose a new path, I explored the programs UTRGV offered. Accounting stood out because I’ve always enjoyed numbers and problem-solving, and I knew it could lead to strong career opportunities.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After earning my bachelor’s degree, I’d like to pursue a master’s in Information Technology. Depending on my career path, I also plan to prepare for the CPA exam. My biggest goal is to build a good life with my girlfriend, support our future family, and give back to my loved ones and community.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
I appreciate that UTRGV offers so many resources for students in every program. Whether it’s academic support, opportunities for growth, or people willing to help, there’s always something available to help you succeed.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
To me, being a Vaquero means being part of a strong, connected community. We support one another and share a sense of pride in who we are and where we’re going.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find?
Working on campus has been one of my biggest opportunities. It’s helped me step out of my comfort zone, improve my communication skills, and gain experience presenting to different groups. I’ve also been able to share information with others about opportunities I didn’t know about when I first started here.
What advice do you have for fellow students?
Stay organized, make use of the resources UTRGV provides, and don’t be afraid to take on new challenges—you might discover opportunities you never expected.
