Why UTRGV?
I chose to attend UTRGV because I wanted to study with the best while staying close to home. Not only does the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley offer great opportunities to all their students, but the campus environment is also fabulous. At UTRGV you will find that everyone is friendly and always willing to help. There is a positive educational environment along with one of the most beautiful campuses in Texas.
What made you decide on your current major?
I decided to pursue an educational career to receive my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice because I plan on attending law school.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I am interested in studying law because I am passionate about helping children. My goal is to attend St. Mary’s Law School in San Antonio, Texas to become a lawyer. I want to be able to advocate for children who have suffered from domestic and sexual abuse. I hope to achieve reforms to help advocate for children who have no voice in the system.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
UTRGV has a beautiful campus. This is a fantastic setting for growing both personally and professionally.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Having determination, persistence, and being charitable instills pride in myself about being a Vaquero and attending UTRGV.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Working with the Student Government Association has been a distinguished opportunity for me which has allowed me to develop university-related abilities such as interpersonal skills, collaboration, organization, and communication. Being involved in campus life has broadened my educational and academic career.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
It is fundamental to be open to learning from and meeting new people. This will grant a student's full academic experience. Make an effort to build a relationship with your advisor and professors. These people are experienced and wise; therefore, maintaining a professional relationship with these mentors increases a student's achievement, motivation, and learning. Managing time, being organized, setting goals, and priorities straight will help students reach their final destination.
