Numerous factors played a pivotal role in shaping my decision to enroll at UTRGV. However, the factor that led me to choose UTRGV was its provision for advancing my academic pursuits while remaining within close proximity to my family and roots. UTRGV's commitment to delivering a high-quality education, coupled with the advantage of staying near my loved ones, greatly influenced my choice. The Rio Grande Valley holds a special place in my heart as my home, and the opportunity to further my education while embracing my culture, community, and cherished relationships has undeniably propelled my college journey.
What made you decide on your current major?
I completed my education at South Texas ISD Health Professions, an institution that opened the doors to the captivating realm of science and its various branches. My deep appreciation for the diverse facets of science led me to select biology as my focal point, enabling me to explore an array of courses within the realm of biological sciences.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
My aspiration is to extend my academic journey by enrolling in a graduate program with the intention of obtaining a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. This pursuit aims to provide me with a more immersive and practical engagement with advanced subjects in this field.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
The faculty members at UTRGV have been an inspiration to me. Each professor has proven to be remarkably supportive and adept at fostering an environment of inspiration and learning. Their unwavering dedication to both their roles at UTRGV and their research endeavors is truly commendable. The care and enthusiasm they bring to their teaching not only make me appreciative but also kindle a desire within me to strive for excellence in my own career, going the extra mile.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
To me, being a Vaquero means taking pride in my community. It involves embracing opportunities, being proactive in academic and personal endeavors, and fearlessly embracing challenges in both realms of life.

UTRGV has provided me with many opportunities that have significantly enriched my professional journey. My major and coursework have introduced me to captivating individuals who have played an instrumental role in shaping my current position. Engaging with the UTRGV community has not only granted me access to advisors and professionals but has also fostered an environment where I can continuously nurture and enhance my skills.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Embrace stepping beyond your comfort zone and seize the opportunity. Embarking on something new might be intimidating, and immediate success might not be guaranteed. But continue unfalteringly, regardless of the challenges encountered along the way.
