Why UTRGV?
I chose to attend UTRGV because of its strong chess program. There are not many opportunities to play chess in my country, so I felt I had to leave and UTRGV was the best option for me.

What made you decide on your current major?
I chose English Literature because I think that literature is an integral part of a well-rounded education. Literature tells of the world and tells of people, so I reckon it is quite relevant.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I want to become a chess grandmaster. I currently have the International Master title, which is just below grandmaster. After this, I hope to help in the development of chess in my country.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
I really like the Brownsville campus. I enjoy taking walks around the campus. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be here.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
I am proud to represent the university on the Chess Team. The Chess Program has a very great history and has achieved a lot. I hope to emulate their achievements.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
I am blessed to be working for the Chess Program. I get the opportunity to provide chess coaching to the local community and handle some administrative tasks.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
I am probably not the right person to ask for advice, but I would say that it is important to set concrete goals, grit your teeth and chase after those goals with all that you have.
