Why UTRGV?
I decided to attend UTRGV since it offers access to good quality and affordable education, with different types of financial aid assistance. Additionally, as a Colombian, I wanted to be part of a university that would provide international inclusion, and UTRGV does a great job empowering and promoting different cultures. This university has the perfect balance between academic and extracurricular activities, which was one of the main things I was looking for in my search for college. Finally, it offers classes that genuinely interest me, along with opportunities of studying abroad that I would like to experience.

What made you decide on your current major?
I’ve been passionate about science my whole life. I love being able to explore and understand the different phenomena that we see in nature. Additionally, I am intrigued by the ocean and everything that it has to offer. I would like to learn more about aquatic ecosystems and make some positive contributions to marine life.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
As of right now, I am still deciding whether to continue pursuing a career in marine biology or going into medical school once I graduate.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
I would have to say that the opportunities for growth and the diversity that UTRGV offers.

Being a Vaquero means being part of a family in which everyone works toward bettering themselves while living unforgettable, fun, and life-changing experiences.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
It helped my find a job at the Center for Student Involvement, which has helped me realize that I enjoy working with people. Additionally, it has helped me make connections with the different clubs in the university and volunteering opportunities.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
While being in UTRGV, I’ve learned that is key to have a balance between your academic and social lives. As a college student, you should be able to enjoy all the different aspects of college while also working toward your degree and future career. I would recommend being organized and learning about time management.
