Why UTRGV?
I have countless reasons why I love this university, but a few that I must highlight are as follows. The first being my mother and family members are alumni of the legacy institution UTPA, and I wanted to continue that tradition in my family to set the example for generations to come. Another reason would be the resources UTRGV provides. As a marketing major, I was seeking an employment opportunity that is tailored to my educational route. I am now employed by the Center for Student Involvement as a marketing specialist. Lastly, I enjoy seeing the diversity this campus provides from the student population to the opportunities, and the college experience.

What made you decide on your current major?
The reason I chose to major in marketing is because it has always piqued my interests on how versatile the promotion of products can be publicized through TV, billboards, and social media.

How are you maneuvering being a student during the COVID-19 pandemic?
I am an individual that is always looking forward for the future. Whenever I lack the motivation to finish an assignment, I tell myself why I started pursuing my degree. I mention how much I enjoy working with others and creating content for social media. After a little pep-talk to myself, I then get to work to accomplish my goals.

What are your greatest strengths and what are some challenges?
One of my challenges that I was faced during Covid-19 was procrastination on my schoolwork. It was hard knowing when your assignments were due since the days passed by so fast being in quarantine. I was able to get out of that habit and decided to get a planner where I can write all my assignments, and tasks that are due that week. Having a planner helped me with my time management and to stay on top of things.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
Once I graduate with my master's degree from UTRGV, I hope to have the opportunity to work with big companies to gain my experience in the marketing world. Another option will be to help local businesses from the RGV gain larger interaction through the means of marketing.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
I like how there are so many opportunities to work at the university. I was able to find an amazing work study opportunity under my major. I now work as a marketing specialist at the Center for Student Involvement. I have worked with fantastic individuals, and I am able part the wonderful traditions and events that happen at UTRGV.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means being proud to be studying in the RGV. Many people have frowned about studying here at the UTRGV when it’s one of the best schools. When I graduate, I will always remember the amazing opportunities and experiences that UTRGV has provided me with. I will continue spreading my Vaquero pride as a UTRGV alumni once I graduate.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
I was able to find amazing volunteering opportunities with being part of student organizations such as The American Marketing Association (AMA) and Enactus. I was able to be part of The Soar Project to guide and prepare young adults with autism for professional opportunities with creating meaningful relationships. I also helped in preparing 1,000 Thanksgiving baskets for families all over the valley.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing degrees during the COVID-19 pandemic?
My advice to fellow students is to keep focusing on achieving your dreams and never lose sight on the end goal. Like the saying goes, “When you feel like quitting, think about why you started.”
