Why UTRGV?
I chose to attend UTRGV to obtain a better education and future. UTRGV offers many opportunities for international students, and it makes you feel welcomed and at home. UTRGV had allowed me to learn but also to work in the accounting field before I graduated with a B.B.A in Accountancy.

What made you decide on your current major?
Since high school, I have liked accounting and dealing with numbers. I always knew I wanted to major in a business-related career. My dream was to become a successful businesswoman, and the College of Business at UTRGV helped me stay in the right path and obtain the necessary education to achieve my dream.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
One of my short-term goals is to obtain a full-time job after my upcoming internship with Deloitte, one of the big four accounting firms. The internship is my second audit internship offer in the Los Angeles office. My second goal is to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) after finishing my master’s degree in Accountancy. A long-term goal is to give back to the RGV community and remain involved in volunteer services.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I like the most about UTRGV is the help it provides for Mexican students, such as low tuition rates and the flexibility to obtain job opportunities on campus. Also, UTRGV has a rich culture to help everyone to adapt and feel at home. In my first year, I lived in Unity Hall (UTRGV dorms), and I experienced many UTRGV events either on campus or at the dorms. Also, UTRGV has many student organizations, which have allowed me to network and obtain job opportunities. Lastly, UTRGV has outstanding and caring professors who guide you, and support you not only as your instructors but also as your mentors.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
It is an honor to me have become a Vaquero. I’ll always be proud to have obtained a bachelor’s degree at UTRGV and soon a master’s degree. UTRGV does a fantastic job of engaging every student in the Vaquero spirit.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has offered opportunities to help my community through student organizations. I’ve proudly served as the Finance Director, Vice President, and President of the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) local chapter. My involvement in the association allowed me to volunteer as Income Tax Assistant and organize Adopt a Highway and Trunk or Treat events. Also, from 2020 to 2022, I was able to volunteer as the financial literacy coordinator at the college of business to teach critical financial topics to UTRGV students. Lastly, my goal is to continue finding ways to help the RGV community.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
One piece of advice would always be to believe that you can achieve your goals. Perseverance and discipline will always help you succeed. The second piece of advice is to stay involved in students’ organizations since your first year to enrich your college experience.
