Why UTRGV?
UTRGV allowed me to have a good education close to home with many scholarship opportunities.

What made you decide on your current major?
I’ve loved art my entire life, and I started at UTRGV with a concentration in studio art rather than graphic design. What made me switch over was the way that the graphic design field incorporates art into technology and advertising, and I found this to be very intriguing and something I wanted to try out.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
Beyond my graphic design major, I see myself freelancing and continuing to pursue art in as many ways as I can. I don’t have a clear idea yet of where I will be, but I’m looking forward to the future.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
I love many of the design classes I have taken. I’ve had the pleasure of learning under some fantastic professors that have not only taught me a lot about art and the field but that have also challenged me to push out of my comfort zone.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
I associate being a Vaquero with our Latino culture and living in the RGV.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
The RGV has a big art community that I wouldn’t have found without meeting my classmates and professors.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Everyone has different strengths and passions, so you should try your best to pursue something you’re actually interested in rather than something you feel forced to do. Trying new things is one of the best ways to find what you truly want to do, so don’t be afraid to switch things up if you feel stuck.
