Why UTRGV?
I chose to attend UTRGV because it’s close to home in every sense. My parents both graduated from our legacy institution, UTPA, where I was first immersed in our university’s culture. As a kid, I’d attend events and classes with them and saw the university expand over time. When my time came to choose which university I’d go to, I knew that UTRGV was the only option in which I didn’t have to compromise education, experience and family values.

What made you decide on your current major?
As someone who likes to be creative and work in dynamic environments, I chose to study Marketing because the field has such a diverse array of subdisciplines. It’s where communication studies, data and research, ethics, psychology and creativity meet to captivate audiences and meet their needs by delivering high value goods and services.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major
After graduating, I hope to find a digital marketing position with a sustainable marketing agency or an in-house position with a socially responsible company. I think that marketers have the capability and responsibility of creating equitable relationships with their audience and stakeholders and I aim to help uphold this role.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
My favorite thing about UTRGV are all the opportunities to get involved on campus. Whether it be joining a student organization, volunteering or joining an intramural sports team, there is always something to do on campus. I also value the benefits of joining student organizations to network and find career opportunities.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
To me, being a Vaquero means opportunity for growth at home. Being from the Valley, I see the importance of retaining talent here at home so that our community can thrive.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Being at UTRGV, I have had the opportunity to shadow professionals, find mentors, attend national conferences, volunteer with student organizations and work on campus.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
The one piece of advice I have for anyone wanting to pursue a degree is to make sure that you find interest and value in what you’re learning because that is what will drive your motivation to continue.
