Why UTRGV?
I chose UTRGV because I wanted to stay close to home. It’s only been my father and I, so I knew I had to stay close by. UTRGV presented the perfect opportunity to pursue a quality education while being able to stay close to the person I love the most.

What made you decide on your current major?
I’ve always loved computers and wondered how they worked. Computer engineering embodies the ability to bring about real change through advancements in technology. There were so many avenues that I could take within the major that I knew I had to pursue computer engineering.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
My passion will always be to help others. I hope to bring real change to the UTRGV College of Engineering and Computer Science and to aid my peers by providing resources to achieve their goals. Prioritize the now to help prepare them for the future. Beyond that, I believe that I will find fulfillment in whatever I pursue in the future.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
I would say the professors. Some of the biggest proponents of my success have been my professors. When you have professors that care and passionately teach for the benefit of the students, it’s something truly amazing to witness. I would like to personally thank Dr. Mahmoud Quweider, Dr. Dimah Dera, and Dr. Rogelio Soto.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero has shown me the strong roots of our community. The pride in pursuing higher education for the betterment of not only ourselves but for our loved ones. Being a Vaquero ties into every student’s commitment to pursuing a better tomorrow.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Through UTRGV I have been able to take part in multiple student organizations. From leading The Cyber Security Club to taking part as a technical lead at Frontera Devs. I take pride in our student organizations and the work we do to help our peers.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Always remember one step at a time. Pursuing a degree can take a lot out of you. From sleepless nights to missing crucial events, it’s a huge commitment that not everyone can take on. However, the reward of doing so is worth it. One step at a time until you hear the roar of your family around you and that degree gently resting in your hands.
