Why UTRGV?
I chose UTRGV because it not only let me stay close to home, but it also offered a lot of opportunity and growth for my career in a more affordable way. After two years of attending UTRGV I can say that I am super appreciative and happy with the education and the experience I have gotten as an intern under the Student Experience Program and as student.

What made you decide on your current major?
I’ve always enjoyed creating content, educating others, and making the best out of every situation, which in a weird way transitioned into my current major in Mass Communication and Marketing. Going into both majors really gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and portfolio but have been one hundred percent related to everything I’ve always wanted to learn. Reporting and marketing were two fields I’d never would have imagined going hand and hand with each other.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
There is a lot I wish to accomplish, especially being a first-generation student, there is a lot more work I’d like to get done. As of now I would only hope to grow my career with Enterprise Holdings as my summer internship with Enterprise Rent-A-Car has now been extended to part time up until I obtain my bachelor’s. Apart from work I would still want to continue my education in the marketing field as there is still so much more to learn in the world of marketing.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
The opportunities offered is what I like the most about UTRGV. There are so many students that unfortunately pass up the awesome jobs, organizations, and events that occur on campus, and those are different opportunities that are offered to truly help the students.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero to me means family. We are one big university where students have the same goals of having a fun university experience while obtaining degrees that can further our careers.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
The Student Experience Internship Program and the American Marketing Association are both opportunities that I am grateful to have taken advantage of. The SEI Program landed me an internship as a broadcast intern for the UTRGV Athletic Department. I could not have asked for a better team of individuals to help navigate and teach me the world of sport broadcasting. AMA is a new opportunity I have jumped on to and got chosen to be their director of media and I’m super excited to see what more there is to learn and do with the marketing department.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Take advantage of the internships or even volunteer opportunities offered on campus so you can get hands-on experience in whatever you may be studying it is truly the most fun way to learn and grow your experience.
