Why UTRGV?
There are many attributes that make UTRGV an excellent university, but my decision was influenced by its proximity to all the places I call home. As a Mexican- American student, UTRGV gave me the opportunity to thrive in an environment that embraced my culture and strengthened my roots. The university’s convenient location allows me to spend valuable time with my family on both sides of the border. UTRGV gave me opportunities that I wouldn’t have found anywhere else.

What made you decide on your current major?
At a very young age, I realized that teaching was my calling. As I approach graduation, I reminisce on the days when I used to gather all my stuffed animals and taught them all the wonderful things I learned at school. I have always felt so much admiration for educators and their ability to foster learning. It feels so surreal to realize that I am so close to being one! I am truly the happiest when I am surrounded by those curious little minds.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
Beyond completing my degree, I hope to make a positive impact on the children that I’ll be lucky to educate. I see myself providing a rightful education to every child that will be placed under my care. In the future, I hope to become a principal. I will offer guidance to teachers, students, and families. I wish to become a leader that encourages, inspires, and supports.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I like most about UTRGV, is our amazing range of classes. Our university offers classes that surely captivate all my attention. Each course is filled with a curriculum that strengthens my love for learning. It is never a dull moment inside those classroom walls.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
To me, being a Vaquero means authenticity. UTRGV’s Vaqueros are always bold and fierce. Whether it be in athletics or academics, Vaqueros truly encourage authenticity. As a Vaquero, I aspire to be all the great things we represent.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has allowed me to work with amazing individuals that have helped me grow into the person I am today. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities that I was given. I have met people that have left a mark in my life. This community and the relationships I have formed through it, have been essential in my personal and professional growth.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
To all my fellow vaqueros, I encourage you to believe in yourself. Truly. I believe that is the ultimate secret to success. You can achieve anything you set your mind to. Most of the time, we are our only limit. Allow yourself to become all the great things you dream of being. Remember that someone out there is looking up to you. You are a source of inspiration in someone’s life.
