Society for Ethnomusicology: 2018 Symposium guests collage, Wednesday, November 14 2018, 9 am to 5 pm Hotel Alburquerque

Music scholars, such as Dr. Andrés Amado, have organized workshops and academic presentations related to the study of Latin American music. In November 2018, Dr. Amado was an invited panelist at a round-table symposium at the Society for Ethnomusicology Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Graduate student Terri Sponsler won the College of Fine Arts prize at the Graduate Research Symposium in February 2018 examining the integration of Mexican folk music in elementary school music curricula. Dr. Silvia Lazo from School of Music also organized events such as the Maldito Tango Duo concert at the UTRGV Performing Arts Center as part of the Distinguished Artist Series.
