Ceremonial Branding

Ceremonial Traditions & Compliance

The visual identity of UTRGV ceremonies is deeply rooted in tradition, but it carries strict operational limits. The designs and assets housed in this section, including college gonfalons and custom stoles, are reserved strictly for official university ceremonies.

Gonfalon Usage Restrictions

Note:

The UTRGV Gonfalon and related ceremonial branding elements are reserved exclusively for official university commencement ceremonies and college pinning ceremonies. They are not approved for promotional campaigns, marketing materials, community outreach activities, tabling events, giveaways, departmental branding, or any other non-ceremonial purpose.

College gonfalons (ceremonial banners) are not college logos and do not replace official UTRGV branding. They are prohibited on websites, digital flyers, department stationery, and other standard marketing or communication materials. The gonfalon is intended to support academic ceremonial traditions and may not be used as a substitute for official UTRGV branding. All other communications, events, and promotional materials must comply with the UTRGV Brand Standards and use approved university branding elements.

The gonfalon artwork, including its individual graphic elements, is not part of the university's approved branding system and may not be extracted, modified, or repurposed for logos, promotional graphics, merchandise, or other branding applications.

Beyond the physical gonfalons displayed during university commencement and college pinning ceremonies, the gonfalon artwork is approved only for the following commemorative items:

  • Memory stole
  • Lapel pin
  • Lanyard

Student Organization Note

Templates and Branding: Non-template designs are legally restricted from using official university colors, logos, or institutional names (including "UTRGV" and specific college names).

ADA Compliance: The five approved templates are pre-engineered to meet legibility and color contrast standards. To maintain this compliance, text placement and fonts cannot be altered or moved outside of the template parameters.

Production and Manufacturing: These templates are provided for internal department and student planning only. Final design files must be submitted directly to an authorized, licensed vendor. Manufacturing through unauthorized external vendors is strictly prohibited.
