Why UTRGV?
I chose to attend UTRGV because it offers comprehensive academic programs and a deeply supportive community. I knew I wanted to pursue a career in business, and the UTRGV Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship provided curriculum that I need to reach my professional aspirations. Staying close to home has allowed me to pursue an affordable and premier education while remaining connected to my family. Having their support nearby is invaluable as I balance my studies, my on-campus job, and my growth as a college student.
What made you decide on your current major?
I decided on marketing because it is a dynamic field that mirrors the sense of connection I first discovered through my passion for music. Like music, marketing is rooted in storytelling and the ability to drive meaningful impact through creative initiatives. My interest is specifically fueled by the digital world, where I enjoy exploring new creative outlets like video production and graphic design. In the fast-paced nature of the field, every day brings new challenges that are engaging.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After I graduate, my goal is to begin an entry-level role in marketing where I can work with a team to help brands grow. I thrive in collaborative settings and hope to join a forward-thinking team and gain hands-on experience. My longer-term goal is to provide brands with marketing solutions that are both creative and effective, helping them build lasting connections with their audience.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
UTRGV is a welcoming and supportive community that has fostered my personal and professional growth. This environment has enabled me to connect with faculty and staff through my role as the Social Media Marketing Intern at RCVCOBE. One of the most transformative experiences I’ve had was the opportunity to study abroad in Switzerland. That program broadened my global perspective, allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture, and explore various marketing strategies. I have also represented UTRGV in national competitions serving as Team Captain for the National Collegiate Consulting Championship and participated in the National Collegiate Digital Marketing Championship and ranked in the top 20.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
To me, being a Vaquero means embodying resilience and determination to overcome challenges while remaining committed to supporting those around us. It is a culture defined by showing up for one another. Being a Vaquero also means having pride to represent where we are from and the confidence to share our voices in professional settings.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has opened many doors for me to engage with my community, primarily through my on-campus role at RCVCOBE. This professional experience, combined with participating in national competitions and in career readiness programs like the ELEVATE program with the UTRGV Center for Commercialization and Innovation, has changed how I view my professional aspirations and reinforced my passion for marketing. I look forward to continuing to drive impact through these collaborative avenues as I venture into my next professional chapter.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
My primary advice for fellow students is to prioritize building meaningful connections early in your journey. Networking is not exclusive to business majors: it is a tool for everyone to learn from those around us. By meeting people with diverse backgrounds and putting yourself out there, both your professional career and your personal character will evolve. Through my experience as a student mentor, I have seen firsthand how impactful a strong support system is for navigating the transition to university life. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and prioritize your well-being and health. As you move toward your goals, remember that you can afford to take your time, but you cannot afford to waste it.
