Why UTRGV?
I chose UTRGV for close proximity and having such an excellent Music Program coupled with an amazing learning environment and culture. The chance of having such lucrative opportunities was too good to pass up. It allows me to remain close at home with family and loved ones and make the transition to my studies easier without sacrificing anything.

What made you decide on your current major?
Music is something that has always drawn me in ever since I played my first game on Gamecube. Couple that with all my siblings being in music, I naturally gravitated towards it. I chose the saxophone because of my older brother Joe and hearing him practice at home for so long. After learning saxophone, it was always my creative outlet, and band was the class I enjoyed the most. I want to be able to share the same joy and passion with my future students.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
After completing my bachelor’s degree, I plan to pursue my master’s degree in music composition or begin teaching at a middle school or high school level. My main goal is to teach, inspire and motivate others through music like I was.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
The UTRGV School of Music faculty are all great, inspiring, and enjoyable people to be around and learn from. Their enjoyment in their profession is evident, and they’ve made a huge difference in my perspective and growth as a person and musician. I am also grateful for how financially accessible UTRGV has been during my education. I have had no issues, and it has allowed me to focus on my studies and performances.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero in my eyes is having a strong passion for doing what you love and pushing yourself above and beyond what you think your capabilities are.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
Having access to a lot of strong school districts has been inspiring and invaluable as an educator. Seeing elementary, middle school, and high school teachers so passionate about their work keeping my drive going.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Enjoy and have fun with your degrees. Don’t feel pressured to follow a path you don’t like, and don’t box yourself in.
