Why UTRGV?
UTRGV has always felt like the one college that could offer the best without expecting the most out of me. It was close to home, and I already had many friends expecting to go there as well. There were also many job opportunities on campus that I was lucky enough to find. Overall, it was my one and only pick and I don’t ever regret it because ever since my first semester, it’s felt like my second home.

What made you decide on your current major?
I’ve known I wanted to be a musician since I was in elementary school. I’ve developed my ear throughout my years of playing music at my church at a young age and I had excellent music teachers at every school I went to. However, my father was the person that inspired me the most and taught me the best lesson I could ever learn that you couldn’t find in any ordinary textbook; to multiply my talents and not bury them.

What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I intend on applying to local school districts and begin working as a teacher to promote music education throughout all public schools. My goal as a music educator would be to highlight the importance of fine arts and how they play a crucial role in fostering creativity and confidence in students.

What do you like most about UTRGV?
The updated scenery makes the campus look alive in the daytime and just as flourishing at night. The students on campus are also all united with their differences. The culture alone helps bring everyone together, and the entire college feels centered on the idea that whatever we do, we do it united, as one.

What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means having the courage to keep going even when things seem impossible to accomplish. It also means being united as a community but also learning independence at the same time. In other words, learning how to be an adult with responsibilities but also being ready to ask for help when things get difficult.

What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has helped me engage a lot more with my community and has given me the opportunity to meet new people while also keeping track of old friends. My job at the Student Union has especially been helpful with that, and I hope to continue working there until my graduation day.

What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
Even at your lowest point, there’s nowhere to go but up. So, keep climbing because at the end of it, it will all be worth it. Keep your worries down and your V’s up.
