Why UTRGV?
I chose to attend UTRGV because of its commitment to student success and community. Not only are students encouraged to grow academically, but also personally and professionally. The university also focuses on community involvement, which might be something I might not have found at other universities.
What made you decide on your current major?
I decided on my current major at a very young age. I was genuinely interested in the medical field and saw myself building a future around it. As I continued to learn more about the field, the more I realized it aligns with my skills and long-term goals.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I hope to attend veterinary school. From there, I will be able to use my skills to have a positive impact on my community. Ultimately, I hope to build a future where I can give back and continue to grow professionally and personally.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
I really enjoy how engaging the atmosphere is. There is never a dull moment on campus. As a member of the UTRGV Marching Band, it was also surreal to experience how united the valley can become when we travel.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means setting traditions, not only on campus, but also in my personal life. It represents having determination and being proud of where I come from and doing the hard work to get where I need to go.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has helped me find tighter knitted communities, like the Pre-Vet Society, where I can connect with like-minded individuals to further my career. Also, it created organizations, like the marching band, to experience college life in a different lens.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
My advice to fellow students is to stay persistent and take advantage of the resources around. Additionally, get involved with student activities, like joining a club or attending rallies. Your college career may be chaotic and hard at times, but the communities you build will keep you determined.
