Why UTRGV?
UTRGV gave me the incredible opportunity to pursue my education through the Luminary Scholarship. With this, I will be able to complete my bachelor’s and master's programs debt free. Not only that, but it has given me so many opportunities to grow professionally and connect with amazing leaders at this incredible institution.
What made you decide on your current major?
I discovered the importance of Marketing through being an avid sports fan. Whether it was watching football, basketball or Formula 1, I noticed how valuable marketing a team is through digital campaigns, social media, and sponsorships to help build an audience for a team/athlete. I knew that I wanted to study something that would help me break into the sports industry and be a part of the success of a team off the main field or court.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I want to pursue my MBA after graduation, and I want to give back to this university that has shaped me into who I am now. My goal is to work for UTRGV’s Athletic Department within the marketing and communications realm. I’ve seen our Vaqueros sports programs grow and improve immensely in the past couple of years. I would love to contribute to the admiration and appreciation of all their hard work and dedication.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
I love the great amount of support and opportunities that this university has provided me with. Our campus is filled with professors, supervisors and leaders who want to see students succeed in the classroom and beyond. I have been able to see myself grow both academically and professionally in the past year alone, and I owe it to UTRGV in ensuring that all students find their perfect path to success.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero to me means unapologetically loving where I came from. As a daughter of two UTRGV alums, I feel great pride in coming to a school that shaped my parents’ education. Now, that I attend this university to pursue my dreams, just as they once did, I cannot help but be proud of the immense amount of growth UTRGV has had in the past 10 years.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has presented me with great opportunities that have helped me reach my full potential. As a student employee with the UTRGV Athletics marketing team, I have been able to get hands on experience in a field that I hope to pursuing in the future. I am also a member of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority here at UTRGV. This student organization has allowed me to get involved with fellow Vaqueros and grow as a leader on and off campus!
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
My advice is simple: do not ever give up on your passions. You may have moments of self-doubt and wonder if your degree is the right choice, but everything will fall into place. Continue to work hard, strive for things that may feel out of reach, and say yes to the opportunities that come about. The rest of your story will write itself.
