Why UTRGV?
I chose UTRGV because it allowed me to stay close to home while continuing my education, which made college more affordable for me. Not having to worry about housing costs gave me the opportunity to focus on my classes and my involvement in music, while still getting a great education in my community.
What made you decide on your current major?
My band director was a huge inspiration in my life and really influenced who I am today. Seeing how much of an impact he had on his students motivated me to follow a similar path. I wanted to grow as a musician and find a way to use my talent to help and inspire others.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I hope to find a career in music where I can mentor and support young musicians. I want to give back in the same way my band director did for me and help students build confidence, discipline, and a love for music.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
The strong sense of community. The people here are very supportive, whether it’s professors or other students. There’s always someone willing to help, which makes it a welcoming place to learn and grow.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means being part of a community that supports you and pushes you to be your best.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
UTRGV has given me the opportunity to connect with the community by visiting local schools to perform and share what it’s like to be a musician at UTRGV. Being able to represent the university through music and inspire younger students has been a rewarding experience and has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
My advice to other students is to not be afraid to explore and try new things. Stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to opportunities you didn’t expect and help you discover new interests.
