Why UTRGV?
From the moment I started high school, I knew I wanted to attend UTRGV because of how close it is to my home and because I love the campus. The classes offered in my degree also made me excited to attend.
What made you decide on your current major?
I chose psychology because of my interest in mental health and how the brain works. The way psychology explores behavior on how the mind processes emotional, physical, and mental experiences is fascinating to me.
What do you hope to achieve beyond completion of your major?
I hope to someday get a master's and a doctorate degree in psychology and become a forensic psychologist.
What do you like most about UTRGV?
What I love most about UTRGV is the community. There is so much to do and so many people that help keep the community bright. I feel like I belong when I’m on campus and that makes me love being here.
What does being a Vaquero mean to you?
Being a Vaquero means doing the best you can in all areas of life and never letting anything bring you down.
What opportunities has UTRGV helped you find throughout your community?
During my time at UTRGV, I discovered a love for criminal justice, which is my minor, and specifically the work of Probation Officers. I always loved the topic in tandem with Psychology, but throughout my time, I’ve realized it is something I would love to pursue as a career if I can.
What advice do you have for fellow students pursuing their degrees?
The best advice I can give is to make sure you love the subject and want to learn the exciting and boring parts. It’s going to be hard and you’re going to wonder if you chose the right degree, but in the end it will be worth it. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and don’t let a bad grade get to you. Never give up.
