Overview

The Alternative Certification Programs (ACP) of the UTRGV offers a flexible and efficient pathway for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree and are seeking to transition into a teaching career. This program is designed to provide the necessary training and certification for those who did not initially pursue a traditional education degree but now wish to become certified teachers.

Is an ACP Right for You?

You might be a candidate for an ACP if you:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in English, Social Studies, History, Math, Science, or Life Science.
  • Are looking to make a career change into teaching.

Our ACP provides the same high standards and rigorous training as traditional routes, ensuring you are fully prepared for the classroom.

Future Opportunities

At UTRGV, we are continuously striving to improve and expand our certification programs. If your degree is not currently eligible for an ACP, stay tuned! We working to develop new programs in the future that cater to a broader range of academic backgrounds. We are committed to providing diverse and accessible pathways to teaching certification to meet the evolving needs of aspiring educators.
