Overview
The College of Education and P-16 Integration (CEP) embraces a culture of inquiry for continuous improvement and collaboration with P-16 partners as reflected in its mission and vision. UTRGV’s Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) unit is an overarching body that includes five colleges that collaborate on the development, delivery, assessment, and accreditation of all teacher preparation programs. The dean of the College of Education and P-16 Integration leads the EPP and promotes partnership building among colleges to collaborate in the preparation of teachers.
As a prominent school within a major Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), UTRGV CEP boasts accreditation from prestigious associations and agencies. SACSCOC
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is an institutional accreditor for quality assurance in higher education. SACSCOC accredits institutions that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degrees, including those offered via distance and correspondence education, and direct assessment within these institutions.
TEA
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) monitors the quality of educator preparation programs to ensure the needs of all learners in the state of Texas are met. By partnering with TEA, UTRGV produces quality educators.
CAEP
The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) is the national accrediting body for educator preparation programs. CAEP advances equity and excellence in educator preparation through evidence-based accreditation which assures quality and supports continuous improvement to strengthen P-12 student learning. The UTRGV educator preparation provider had a successful site visit on March 27-29, 2022. The following UTRGV programs are CAEP accredited:

NASM
The National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) is an association of approximately 644 schools of music, primarily at the collegiate level, but includes postsecondary non-degree-granting schools of music. The Association provides information to the public and professional development for music school leaders, produces statistical research, and engages in policy analysis.
The primary purpose of schools of music is to help individual students turn talent, inspiration, creativity, and dedication into significant potential for service to the development of musical culture in its multiple dimensions. Therefore, the focus of NASM's work is on issues of musical content and educational substance as applied to the preparation of music professionals.
NAST
The National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees in theatre and theatre-related disciplines. NAST has accredited the theatre education program at UTRGV.
CACREP
The Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Program (CACREP) is the independent agency that accredits graduate programs in addiction counseling, career counseling, clinical mental health counseling, marriage, couple, and family counseling, school counseling, and student affairs and college counseling.
As an independent agency that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, CACREP ensures the quality and reputation of counseling programs in higher education. CACREP accredited programs reflect the highest standards in counselor education.
CAEP Steering Committee
To bolster our commitment to meeting CAEP accreditation standards, the CEP dean has formed a specialized CAEP Steering Committee comprising of qualified professionals. They oversee sub-committees and regularly report on CEP's progress toward meeting CAEP requirements. Committee members include:

The Board of Directors of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) met July 12-14, 2018, for the purpose of making accreditation decisions. Two counseling specialty areas housed in the College of Education and P-16 Integration at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley were reviewed under the 2016 CACREP Standards.
The Board based the above accreditation decisions on an extensive review of the self-study documents, the visiting team's report, and the institution's response to the visiting team's report.
