College Research Grants and Grant Support
The purpose of this design team is to provide faculty development and support in grant writing. This design team meets with college grant experts to identify ideas and search for grant databases. They also designed and implemented a survey to identify faculty expertise. Based on survey results, the design team created an infographic and a coded spreadsheet with faculty expertise and fields of research interests.

Call for Papers
Educational Borderlands: A Bilingual Journal (EBBJ) is a new peer-reviewed journal, bilingual in English and Spanish. It is a publication that examines the challenges and possibilities posed by educational borders, both literal and figurative. EBBJ intends to offer a forum for research that addresses educational, cultural, and epistemological vitality, including those of bicultural/multicultural and bilingual/multilingual communities considered local, national, binational, or transnational educational contexts.
We seek original manuscripts to appear in the second volume of EBBJ to present diverse interdisciplinary research related to formal education and inquiry that locates itself in the borderlands, connecting the theory and practice of education to the lived experience of culture, community, family, identity, and social justice. The journal highlights the voices of activists, thinkers outside of academia, and creative writers, alongside academic sections devoted to peer-reviewed research.
EBBJ has the following topic threads:
- Community Voices
- Dual Language and Multilingual Studies
- Transnational Curriculum Dialogues
- Borderlands of Practice
- Borderlands of Ability Differences
- Spanish and English Book/Media Reviews
In the spirit of breaking down barriers, every article published in EBBJ is open access and offered free of charge as we do not charge any publication fees. In addition to academic researchers, EBBJ’s audience includes colleges of education as well as non-profits that serve border regions or marginalized communities.
EBBJ is bilingual by design. We invite submissions in Spanish, English, or a mixture of both. You can submit a manuscript on the EBBJ website. Full details on format and scope are available on our website.
If you have further questions or requests, please contact the EBBJ editors directly at educational.borderlands@utrgv.edu.
Professional Development and Resources
The purpose of this design team is to provide development and support for faculty in applied, pure/basic, and theoretical research in education, and to manage Research Hub resources. This design team distributed a needs survey to CEP faculty to determine interests and needs relating to professional development. In response to needs and interests, this design team partnered with CEP faculty to facilitate professional development workshopsfocused on:
(1) Developing and Sustaining a Research Collective;
(2) How to Find the Right Places to Publish your Journal Articles;
(3) Scales/Measures/Instruments Using SPSS to Derive Psychometric Properties of Reliability and Validity;
(4) How to Obtain a Book Contract; and
(5) Getting Started with Qualtrics.
A total of 82 faculty from CEP and throughout UTRGV participated in these professional development workshops. The design team also began working on the CEP lending library and research hub space allocation and reservation system.
