Prerequisite: Currently enrolled in EDCI 3331

1. Take the Core Subjects (391) Representative Exam by the Last February date (Spring) / Last September date (Fall).

  • The link to register can be found on the OEPA homepage > Calendar.
  • Representative exam scores are not valid after a year.

2. Create an Eligibility Request Form application on SL&L with your Item Analysis Sheet (Representative Exam results) uploaded within 48 hours of test-taking.

3. The Certification Exam Support Hub will issue an individualized study prescription.

  • Schedule an appointment with your Program Specialist if required.
  • Complete the study prescription by the date specified on your application’s feedback.
  • Tutoring sessions are mandatory as indicated in your study prescription.

4. Email passing score report and transcript from 240 Tutoring to the Certification Exam Support Hub by your deadline.

  • Upon approval, the Certification Exam Support Hub issues a signed Eligibility Form through email.

5. Proceed to Step 2 of Teacher Certification Roadmap to submit TExES Testing Request Application within 48 hours of receiving your signed Eligibility Form.

6. Take your official certification exam within 30 days of receiving test approval.

If you did not pass, please refer to 2nd Attempt process within 48 hours of receiving your official score report.

1. Create an Eligibility Request Form on SL&L within 48 hours of receiving your official Pearson score report and upload it to the application.

2. The Certification Exam Support Hub will issue an individualized study prescription.

  • Schedule an appointment with your Program Specialist if required.
  • Complete the study plan within the time frame given in your prescription.
  • Tutoring sessions are mandatory as indicated in your study prescription.
  • Study prescription may require retaking representative exams and demonstrate readiness for EC-6 Core Subjects (391), PK-3 Early Childhood (292), STR (293), and /or PPR (160).

3. Email completed study plan and score report/transcript (ex. 240 Tutoring) to the Certification Exam Support Hub.

  • The practice test assigned must show a score of 90% or higher in all domains.

A review for eligibility will be conducted based on successful individual performance as demonstrated on study plan, tutoring and assessment scores.

  • Upon approval, the Certification Exam Support Hub will issue a signed Eligibility Form through email.

4. Proceed to Step 2 of Teacher Certification Roadmap.

  • Submit a TExES Testing Request Application on SL&L within 48 hours of receiving your signed Eligibility Form.

If you did not pass, please refer to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Attempt process within 48 hours of receiving your official score report.

1. Email department chair or program coordinator to request eligibility within 48 hours of receiving your official Pearson score report.

Include the following in your email:

  • Official Pearson score report (most recent)
  • Full name
  • Student ID
  • Current semester in our program (Block I, Block II, applying for clinical teaching, etc.)

2. The department chair or program coordinator will issue an individualized study prescription for you to document your studying progress.

  • Complete the study plan (with higher expectations) and educational activities within the time frame given in your prescription.
  • Tutoring sessions are mandatory as indicated in your study prescription.
  • Study prescription may require retaking representative exams for EC-6 Core Subjects (391), PK-3 Early Childhood (292), STR (293), and /or PPR (160).

3. Email completed study plan and score report/transcript (ex. 240 Tutoring) to the department chair or program coordinator for review.

  • Representative exam scores are not valid after a year.

2. Create an Eligibility Request Form application with your Item Analysis Sheet (Representative Exam results) uploaded within 48 hours of test-taking.

3. The Certification Exam Support Hub will issue an individualized study prescription.

  • Complete the study prescription by the date specified on your application’s feedback.
  • For Domain 013, attend a workshop to obtain clearance.
  • Tutoring sessions are mandatory as indicated in your study prescription.

4. Email completed study plan and score report/transcript (ex. 240 Tutoring) to the Certification Exam Support Hub by your deadline.

  • Upon approval, the Certification Exam Support Hub will issue a signed Eligibility Form through email.

5. Proceed to Step 2 of Teacher Certification Roadmap and create the TExES Testing Request Application on SL&L to submit your signed Eligibility Form within 48 hours of receiving it.

6. Take your official certification exam within 30 days of receiving test approval.

If you did not pass, please refer to 2nd attempt process within 48 hours of receiving your official score report.

3rd Semester (Cluster 3)

Prerequisite: Currently enrolled or have taken EDCI 3335
EC-6 Core Subjects (391) passed and have tested the STR (293) exam 1st attempt

1. Complete the 240 Tutoring module for the PPR to unlock the Practice Test and achieve a score of 80% or higher in all domains by the 1st Friday of March (Spring) / 2nd Friday of October (Fall).

2. When 80% or higher is achieved, proceed to Step 2 of Teacher Certification Roadmap by creating a TExES Testing Request Application on SL&L with your 240 Tutoring Practice Test report uploaded.

3. Take your official certification exam within 30 days of receiving test approval.

  • If you did not pass, please refer to 2nd attempt process within 48 hours of receiving your official score report.

A finisher is a graduate from our Educator Preparation Program who has completed all program requirements including Clinical Teaching, practicum or internship, and is only pending Certification Exams to obtain their Standard Teaching Certificate TAC 228.2(18).

Certification Exams:

1. Fill out the first portion of the Returning Graduates Form.

2. Email the completed form to the Certification Exam Support Hub at certificationexamsupport@utrgv.edu.

3. The Certification Exam Support Hub (CESH) will provide you with next steps or redirect you to the appropriate department.

4. Complete any applicable requirements.

5. Once you receive your signed Eligibility Form, proceed to Step 2 of the Teacher Certification Roadmap to submit the TExES Testing Request Application on SL&L and upload your signed Eligibility Form.

For future attempts, continue communicating with the Certification Exam Support Hub for approval.

Change in State Standards and Teacher Certification  

Subsequent to completion of degree and request for approval to take State Certification exam; the current TEA regulations will be adhered to. Therefore, candidates may be required to fulfill additional requirements not present at the time of initial completion of degree. TAC 228.31 (E).  

Transfer Requirements  

If a teacher candidate does not complete all required testing requirements to be recommended for certification and opts to pursue a different area of certification/track for teacher certification, the student must complete a Transfer Form . The completion of a Transfer Form indemnifies UTRGV EPP against responsibility for the former student’s teacher certification recommendation and reporting requirements.
