Resacas
Sea level began to rise 10,000 years ago, in the Holocene and features from this period overlay older structures in the RGV. The current river delta complex, a low elevation area, transected by now dry distributor channels of the river (resacas) extends south from Harlingen and continues into Mexico. Boca Chica marks the current mouth of the Rio Grande River.
