How To Apply

If you are a FRESHMAN TRANSFER student (0-23 hrs.) please follow the steps below:
  • Fill out your UTRGV application online at https://goapplytexas.org/.
    • Domestic students should apply by submitting a “U.S. Transfer” application.
    • International students must submit an "International Transfer" application (Note: A $50 international application fee will apply).
  • For the 2024-2025 application cycle, UTRGV remains test-optional. If you have taken the ACT or SAT exams and wish to send us your scores, contact the testing agency. The UTRGV school code for ACT is 6991, and for SAT 6568.
    • While test scores are not required for an admission decision, test scores are required for Tuition Advantage and are highly encouraged for Scholarships, College of Engineering Admissions, Biomedical Program Admissions, etc.
  • Submit your official final high school transcript or High School equivalency certificate (GED). Make sure the transcript indicates your graduation plan, GPA, graduation date, class rank and class size (if applicable). If you obtained a GED, submit your GED certificate and your High School transcript containing any courses completed before earning the GED.
  • Submit official transcripts from each college or university attended.

If you are a regular TRANSFER student (24+ hrs.) please follow the steps below:

  • Fill out your UTRGV application online at https://goapplytexas.org/.
    • Domestic students should apply by submitting a “U.S. Transfer” application.
    • International students must submit an "International Transfer" application (Note: A $50 international application fee will apply).
  • Submit official transcripts from each college or university attended.

If you fall under these additional scenarios, you must submit other documents in addition to the standard documents mentioned above:

  • If you attended a high school (only for freshman transfers) or university (all transfers) in a foreign country, you must send your transcript to get evaluated by SPANTRAN, Foreign Credentials Service of America (FCSA), or World Education Services (WES). SPANTRAN, FCSA, or WES are the only companies accepted by UTRGV for foreign evaluations.
Note: In order to perform an accurate evaluation of the transfer coursework, applicants with academic coursework taken at a foreign higher education institution need to submit to UTRGV the certified English translation for all course descriptions and course syllabi along with a copy of their foreign transcript in addition to the Foreign Credential Evaluation from SPANTRAN, FCSA, or WES.

  • If you are an international applicant, you must complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), DUOLINGO English Test, or IELTS, unless you qualify for an exemption.
Note: The minimum scores for the tests are as follows: TOEFL 61 (IBT, IBT Home or IBT Paper edition, IBT MyBest Scores), TOEFL Essentials 6.5  (Essentials, MyBest Scores), DUOLINGO 95, and IELTS 6. Students who submit documentation demonstrating successful completion of the highest ESL Advanced Level course through The UTRGV Language Institute can be waived from TOEFL requirement.

Documents needed after admission:

  • Texas Success Initiative (TSI) approved test scores or proof of exemption, if applicable. International students interested in taking the TSI exam in their home country must contact the Testing Center (testing@utrgv.edu).
  • Proof of meningitis vaccination or exemption - In accordance with Texas law, UTRGV requires all first-time students, including transfer and returning students under the age of 22, to submit evidence the student has been vaccinated against bacterial meningitis at least 10 days prior to the first class day of the semester or to provide other documentation establishing why such a vaccination is not required. Students will not be allowed to enroll without providing proof of the vaccination or exemption.

All first-time students, including transfer and returning students, must provide one of the following documents to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions:

    • A “Bacterial Meningitis Immunization Record” signed by a health practitioner indicating the student has been vaccinated against bacterial meningitis or any other official state or local immunization record. Vaccinations must be administered no more than 5 years and no fewer than 10 days prior to the first day of the semester for which the student is enrolling.
    • A "Refusal of Immunization for Medical Reasons" signed by a physician who is licensed and registered to practice medicine in the United States that states the physician's opinion that the required vaccination would be injurious to the health and well-being of the student.
  •
    • A "Texas Department of State Health Services Conscientious Exemption" form signed by the student stating the student has declined the vaccination for reasons of conscience, including religious belief. Submit original form, no copies allowed.

Documents must be sent through one of the following methods:

  • Upload:    https://enrollment.utrgv.edu/documentcentral *
  • Email:      application@utrgv.edu *

*Transcripts or Scores uploaded or emailed directly by the student will be considered unofficial. Official transcripts sent directly from the transfer institution will be required.
