Academic Advisement
As you prepare for your transition to UTRGV, the Academic Advising Center is here to guide you as you take your education to the next level! As an admitted and incoming transfer student, we invite you to schedule an optional advising session with us. During your 1 hour New Transfer 360 Advising Session, you’ll partner with your advisor to…
- Review your approved transfer course work
- Understand your program of study
- Identify courses for the upcoming term
- Connect to academic resources
- Address your questions and ideas about your education
By the end of your session, you’ll know where you stand with your educational goals and be set to register for the upcoming term!
So, When Do You Schedule This Session?
After being admitted to UTRGV, new transfer students can schedule an appointment to meet with an academic advisor. To make an appointment, please call 956-665-7120 (Edinburg) or 956-882-7362 (Brownsville) or email academicadvising@utrgv.edu.
Before you schedule your advising session, we want to make you aware of a few policies to ensure your first session with us is a success.
- Be Sure Your Final And Official Transcripts Have Been Submitted To Admission. Upon the completion of your course work at your current institution, you’ll want to ensure you request that your official transcript be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for evaluation. This will allow you and your advisors to review your accepted course work, begin conversations about your program of study and ensure your advising session is based on your most up to date academic record at UTRGV.
- Be Sure To Schedule Your Advising Session At Least 24 Hours In Advance. In doing so, you will be able to properly prepare for your session and your advisor will have the needed time to review your academic history and progress.
- Be Sure To Arrive At Least 10 Minutes Before Your Advising Session. By arriving early, you will have time to park your car, find your advising session location, and check in at the front desk to let your advisor know you’ve arrived. Students who call ahead and inform the Academic Advising Center that they will be late may be able to be seen at the advisor’s discretion. Please note that if you arrive 5 minutes late with no advanced notice to the Academic Advising Center your advising session will be canceled and you will be responsible for rescheduling.
- Be Sure To Bring Your UTRGV Student ID. Your academic records contain your personal information. And we naturally want to do our best to take care of your record. One of the ways we do that is by checking your UTRGV Student ID Card when you check in at the Academic Advising Center front desk. This simple step ensures we confirm who you are and provides you a level of confidence that your academic record is discussed only with you.
