Admitted Transfer Students

Congratulations on being admitted as a transfer student — we’re thrilled to have you continue your academic journey with us!

We know transitioning to a new university can be exciting and challenging, but don’t worry — we’re here to support you. To get started, check out the steps below to ensure a smooth transfer process and a successful start at UTRGV. From Academic Advisement to Your Roadmap and Financial Aid, we’ve got you covered. Let’s get you on track to achieve your goals!

I'm Admitted, What's Next?

Follow these steps to ensure a great start to UTRGV!

Go to myaccount.utrgv.edu to activate your account. Check ASSIST and your UTRGV email often – all official UTRGV messages go to your UTRGV email account. Your account must be activated to register and sign up for New Student Orientation.

Visit the New Student Orientation page for information on how and when to sign up for New Student Orientation. You may enroll in classes before attending orientation. Registration for Transfer Orientation opens mid-February.

**This item is needed to register for classes, submit documentation as soon as possible.**

If you are below 22 years of age, submit proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination or exemption. The vaccine must be given no more than 5 years prior to the start of the term you applied for. The document must clearly state your full name, date of birth, vaccine name, date vaccine was given, and signature/stamp from physician/facility that administered the vaccine. The document can be submitted online through Document Central or emailed to application@utrgv.edu. Exemption affidavits must be submitted in person or by mail.

If you submitted an in-progress college transcript from your transferring institution to complete your application, send an updated official college transcript once the grades have been posted to your record. College transcript must be sent directly from the college/university to UTRGV. Unofficial transcripts are not accepted.

  • Log in to my.utrgv.edu
  • Click on the ASSIST icon
  • Select the Student Profile section
  • Click on Academic Record
  • Select Transcript Level "Undergraduate"
  • Select Transcript Type "Advising Course History"
Questions regarding your coursework can be addressed to your advisor. Any discrepancies or corrections needed to your transfer coursework must be finalized within your first term at UTRGV.

**This item is needed to register for classes and submit documentation as soon as possible.**

If you have not completed college-level coursework that satisfies the TSI requirements, you will be required to submit TSI scores or proof of exemption. For step-by-step instructions on how to share your TSI scores click here. If you are not able to share your scores, scores can be uploaded through Document Central or emailed to application@utrgv.edu.

TSI Frequently Asked Questions

Request official scores to be sent directly from the College Board or IB. Review our equivalency tables to see eligibility requirements and credits you may be eligible to claim.

Log in to my.utrgv.edu and check your ASSIST account for information on your awards.

We invite you to schedule an optional Academic Advisement session where you will be able to review your Transfer Coursework, understand your program of study, and identify courses for the upcoming term. www.utrgv.edu/advising

If you applied for a program that has a separate admissions process, such as Nursing, Dance, Social Work, Business majors, etc., visit the program's website for information on the application process and deadlines.

Want to have the complete Vaquero experience? Living on campus gives you an academic edge from Living Learning Communities to leadership opportunities. If you plan to live on campus, make sure you fill out all the appropriate forms and submit the necessary deposits before the deadline.

Don't forget that you have resources such as our catalog and our one-stop shop for student services (U Central) if you have questions about financial aid or registration.

Plan Your Academic Journey

Prepare for your transition to UTRGV with guidance from the Academic Advising Center. As a newly admitted transfer student, you're invited to schedule an optional 1-hour advising session. During the New Transfer 360 Advising Session, you'll collaborate with your advisor to:

  • Review approved transfer coursework
  • Understand your program of study
  • Identify courses for the upcoming term
  • Connect with academic resources
  • Address questions and ideas about your education

When to Schedule

After admission, new transfer students can schedule an advising appointment by calling 956-665-7120 (Edinburg) or 956-882-7362 (Brownsville) or emailing academicadvising@utrgv.edu.

Before scheduling, keep in mind

  • Submit final and official transcripts to Undergraduate Admissions for evaluation.
  • Schedule your advising session at least 24 hours in advance for proper preparation.
  • Arrive at least 10 minutes early, bringing your UTRGV Student ID for check-in.

Follow the steps on the Academic Advisement page to set up your appointment. Let's get you scheduled for a successful advising session!

Plan your academic journey strategically!

Roadmaps, tailored to your major, suggest the sequence of courses for your time at UTRGV. As you check your Roadmap, focus on prerequisites, course sequence, grades, classification, and rotation. Consider how your graduation path aligns with Core Categories by reviewing your Roadmap in connection with the core curriculum.

Financial Aid

We're committed to providing opportunities for your success. If financial barriers stand in your way, our counselors are here to help. From guiding you through the application process to understanding deadlines and available aid, we offer personalized support.

Investing in your university education is an investment in your talent and future career. Most UTRGV students receive various forms of financial aid, including scholarships, grants, loans, work-study, and institutional aid programs. Knowing about available aid and the application process is crucial during the admissions process.

ProVerifier+

UTRGV is pleased to announce our new automated verification solution called ProVerifier+ powered by ProEducation Solutions.

If your FAFSA application is selected for verification by the U.S Department of Education, you will receive an introductory email at your UTRGV email address.

Types of Aid

Depending on your family’s income and your academic and extracurricular accomplishments to date, financial aid may be available to you in many different forms.

  • Scholarships: Are funds that do not require repayment and are awarded based on merit, need, and achievement in academics, athletics, the arts, or other scholarly areas.
  • Grants: They do not require repayment and are awarded based on financial need.
  • Loans: Are available at the state and federal levels and repayment typically begins six months after you’ve graduated or dropped to less than half-time status. There are also parent loan programs.
  • Work-Study: These programs and campus employment will enable you to earn money that can offset educational costs.

There are other forms of financial assistance, including institutional aid programs, tuition funding for military veterans and their families, and waiver programs from the state of Texas that allow certain out-of-state or nonresident students to pay in-state tuition.
