UT Coordinated Admission Program (CAP)

The Coordinated Admission Program (CAP) presents an alternative pathway for Texas resident high school graduates seeking freshman admission to the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin).

Under CAP, you'll begin your academic journey at UTRGV for your freshman year, fulfilling all CAP requirements before transferring to UT Austin to continue your undergraduate studies. Upon successful completion of these requirements, admission to UT Austin's College of Liberal Arts is guaranteed, though specific majors within other colleges are not assured.

Notably, CAP offers opportunities for admission to majors across colleges outside of Liberal Arts, excluding the School of Architecture. This program ensures access to UT Austin for students who may not have initially secured direct admission, offering a promising avenue to achieve academic goals within the renowned UT System.

Students can choose UTRGV when selection opens on the student’s UT Austin MyStatus page.

UTRGV offers on-campus housing options on both the Edinburg and Brownsville campuses.

First Time Freshmen living outside the four-county Rio Grande Valley fall under the first-year student housing policy and are required to live on campus during their first year of coursework. In addition, UTRGV highly encourages students living in the Rio Grande Valley to consider living on campus to take advantage of the amenities afforded to students. Living on campus allows students to immerse themselves in the campus community where faculty, staff, and services support their educational goals both academically and socially.
