If you haven't started college or earned some college credits while still in high school, you’re considered a freshman here at UTRGV. This also includes GED and homeschool graduates—if you haven’t attended college after receiving your diploma, you’re starting fresh with us!

Apply To UTRGV

  • Submit an Undergraduate (four-year) application through ApplyTexas.org.
  • TSI Frequently Asked Questions
  • Submit High School Record:
    • Applicants from a U.S. High School or Homeschool: Submit high school transcript indicating graduation plan, GPA, and class rank (if applicable). Transcripts must include all completed coursework at the time of application.
    • Applicants from a Texas Private School: submit a high school transcript along with this form.
    • Applicants with a GED: Submit your GED certificate and high school transcript for any courses completed before earning the GED.
    • Applicants from a Foreign High School: Send your transcript to one of the following approved evaluation companies and have them send the evaluation report directly to UTRGV:
      • The Evaluation Company (formerly SPANTRAN)
      • Foreign Credentials Service of America (FCSA)
      • World Education Services (WES)
      • International Education Evaluation (IEE)
  • Test Scores (Optional for 2025-2026): UTRGV remains test-optional. If submitting ACT/SAT scores, have the testing agency send your official scores. Superscores are accepted. (ACT code: 6991, SAT code: 6568).
  • Admissions Essay (Optional for 2025-2026): Submit Essay A or B via ApplyTexas. Minimum recommended length: 500 words.
  • Recommended: Submit official college transcripts for any dual-enrollment college coursework for consideration in a holistic review.
  • Additional items for international applicants:
    • Submit $50 application fee through the UTRGV Marketplace.  
    • Submit proof of English language proficiency by one of the following companies: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), DUOLINGO English Test, IELTS, or Pearson’s PTE Academic unless you qualify for an exemption.

Our holistic admissions approach helps us understand each applicant's overall potential and how they might contribute to our campus community. 

If you're in the top 10 percent of your high school class, you're guaranteed admission to UTRGV. For all other entering freshmen, we create an admissions profile based on your high school achievements and the information you provide.

For the 2025-2026 application cycle, submitting test scores (SAT or ACT) is optional. If you choose to submit scores, they will be part of our holistic review. While not needed for admission, test scores are necessary for certain programs like Tuition Advantage, scholarships, and specific admissions like the College of Engineering and Biomedical Programs. 

Priority Deadlines

  • Summer Sessions: April 1 
  • Fall Semester: May 1 
  • Spring Semester: November 1

Applications completed after the priority deadline will still be considered for the application term, but processing times may be longer.

Clery Act

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes information on safety and security policies, including crime and fire statistics for the previous three years.

The report is available on the University Police website at:  https://utrgv.link/csr2024.  A hard copy of the report is available at the University Police Departments located on 501 N. Sugar Rd. (Edinburg), 2671 FJRM Ave. (Brownsville), 2102 Treasure Hills Blvd. (Harlingen), or 1937 East Bustamante Street (Laredo), also by contacting University Police at 956-882-7777.
