Non Degree Seeking Students
If you do not plan to pursue a second degree and are interested in taking undergraduate courses in order to fulfill pre requirements or educational objectives for a particular undergraduate or graduate program, apply for admissions using the steps outlined below.
Please note: Non-Degree seeking students are not eligible for most forms of financial aid and are not eligible to obtain an F-1 Visa.
If you earned a degree at UTRGV or UTPA and are applying for admissions as a Non-Degree Student:
- Log on to https://applytexas.org/
- Complete the Returning application.
- Indicate that you already have a bachelor’s degree and do not wish to pursue a second bachelor's degree when the application prompts you for it.
- Submit official college transcript that indicates Bachelor's or Graduate degree earned. It is not necessary to send UTPA/UTRGV transcripts.
If you earned a degree at another regionally accredited institution including UT Brownsville and are applying for admissions as a Non-Degree Student:
- Log on to https://applytexas.org/
- Complete the Transfer application.
- Indicate that you already have a bachelor’s degree and do not wish to pursue a second bachelor's degree when the application prompts you for it.
- Submit official college transcript that indicates Bachelor's or Graduate degree earned. It is not necessary to send UT-Brownsville transcripts.
Note: The minimum scores for the tests are as follows: TOEFL 61 (IBT, IBT Home or IBT Paper edition, IBT MyBest Scores), TOEFL Essentials 6.5 (Essentials, MyBest Scores), DUOLINGO 95, IELTS 6, and Pearson's PTE Academic 45. Students who submit documentation demonstrating successful completion of the highest ESL Advanced Level course through The UTRGV Language Institute can be waived from TOEFL requirement.
Transfer coursework is only evaluated for degree-seeking students. Check to see if the course you are interested in taking requires pre-requisites by reviewing the Class Schedule. If so, contact the appropriate academic department to get permission to enroll.
Non-Degree seeking students who wish to pursue an additional baccalaureate degree at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley must submit all the admission requirements for Second-Degree seeking students before the census date of the application term. Documents submitted after the application term’s census date to change the status from non-degree seeking to second-degree seeking will be processed for the next available term.

Tuition and fees must be paid by the semester deadline published in the Academic Calendar found on the https://my.utrgv.edu/home under Resources.
