Second Degree Students
If you have already obtained an undergraduate degree or graduate degree and are interested in pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in a different major, apply for admissions using the steps outlined below.
If you earned your degree at UTRGV or UTPA and are applying for admissions as a Second Degree Student:
- Log on to https://applytexas.org/
- Select the Returning application.
- Indicate that you already have a bachelor's degree and want to seek a second bachelor's degree when the application prompts you for it.
- Submit the official college transcript that indicates you have earned a bachelor's degree. It is not necessary to send UTPA/UTRGV transcripts.
If you earned a bachelor’s degree at another accredited institution including UT-Brownsville:
- Log on to https://applytexas.org/
- Complete the Transfer application.
- Indicate that you already have a bachelor's degree and want to seek a second bachelor's degree when the application prompts you for it.
- Submit the official college transcript that indicates you have earned a bachelor's degree. It is not necessary to send UT-Brownsville transcripts.
Second Degree seeking students do not undergo an evaluation of transfer coursework upon admission. Official transcripts from other institutions attended may be needed after discussing with an appropriate university personnel who will work directly with the major department, school, or program to determine how/whether course work and credit from the first degree applies to their second degree.

For International applicants, a $50 non-refundable application fee will apply. Applicants must also complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), DUOLINGO English Test, IELTS, or Pearson's PTE Academicunless you qualify for an exemption.
Note: The minimum scores for the tests are as follows: TOEFL 61 (IBT, IBT Home or IBT Paper edition, IBT MyBest Scores), TOEFL Essentials 6.5 (Essentials, MyBest Scores), DUOLINGO 95, IELTS 6, and Pearson's PTE Academic 45. Students who submit documentation demonstrating successful completion of the highest ESL Advanced Level course through The UTRGV Language Institute can be waived from TOEFL requirement.
