Current SAS Students
Returning Student Process
Once a student is registered with SAS, he/she must continue to request their accommodations each semester. Each semester results with new, different instructors that need to be notified of the approved accommodations. This process can be completed through the mysas portal (utrgv.edu/mysas).
If the student wishes to keep the same accommodations as the previous semester and disability related documentation is up to date, letters will be generated at the beginning of the semester and emailed to the student’s university email address as well as the instructors listed on the student’s schedule at that time.
Students returning to SAS can:
- Request accommodations from SAS each semester.
- Choose from approved accommodations for each class.
- Send accommodation letters to instructors.
- Submit additional documentation.
Students who do not request SAS accommodations for two consecutive semesters may have their case archived. A scheduled appointment to review accommodations or services will be required with an Access Coordinator. Additional disability - related documentation to support new accommodation requests may be required.
Students may schedule an appointment with an Access Coordinator to review their accommodations at any time.
Alternative Formats
Qualified, current SAS students with disabilities may be eligible to receive alternative formats, as stated in the student’s approved SAS accommodation letters. Students must have submitted documentation and been approved for services before any alternative formats will be created. If a student requires an alternative format not previously identified in an SAS approved accommodation letter, the student will need to submit a new request. Student may be asked to provide documentation supporting the new request. All materials will be processed in the order in which they were received. Students are responsible for being aware of and complying with all alternative format procedures. All book requests will be submitted through mySAS, utrgv.edu/mysas.
Interpreting Services
Students who are Deaf are provided with sign-language interpreters for all academic settings directly related to class (i.e., class time, class assignments, and instructor generated review sessions). Students who are Hard of Hearing may also be eligible for sign-language interpreter services.
