Accessibility Achievement Award Nominations
The Accessibility Achievement Award is an annual celebration of individuals who support and contribute to access for students with disabilities at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Student Accessibility Services alone does not make the university accessible to students. We rely on every member of the multi-campus community.
Student Accessibility Services is seeking nominations for the 2025 Accessibility Achievement Awards.
The purpose of the Accessibility Achievement Awards is to honor UTRGV faculty and staff who have demonstrated exceptional and innovative practices in further advancing accessibility at UTRGV and fostered an inclusive environment for students with disabilities. (Student Accessibility Services staff are not eligible).
Physical and learning environments are accessible if they have minimal or no barriers and can be easily used by a person with a disability. Some examples of accessibility include the following.
- Physical spaces
- Ramps (instead of steps)
- Curb cuts
- Accessible electric doors
- Sufficient space to easily and safely navigate indoors between chairs, tables, desks, etc. or outdoors
- Learning environments
- Welcoming and inclusive of persons with disabilities so they feel they belong
- Easily navigated (in person and online)
- A course is structured in a flexible way to allow for multiple means of representing one’s knowledge with a variety of formats for course materials and engagement.
Recipients of a 2025 Accessibility Achievement Award will be contacted by SAS staff. The ceremony will be hosted by UTRGV Student Accessibility Services on October 2025.
Nominations may be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on 9/01/2025.
