How this works
- Work with the portal open beside you. Every module ends with something to actually do. Reading alone will not stick.
- Do Foundations first. Two ideas underpin everything else, and skipping them is why most new users get stuck later.
- Then do your track, and only your track. Managers are the exception — they do the Editor track too, because Managers can do everything an Editor can.
- Check yourself as you go. If you cannot answer a check question, re-read that module before moving on.

4 Course slots
One row per requirement. This is the unit you build.
A slot is a POSITION in the plan—not always a named courseIt may be exactly one course (HIST 3300), or a choice among several approved courses (“Choose 1 of 5 Communication core courses”).

Set once in the requirement wizard.
- Requirement type Which of the five kinds it is
- Options The course or courses on offer

- Notes Guidance shown to students
WHAT TO TAKE FROM THIS
- A roadmap is one program + concentration + campus + catalog year. Change any of those four and it is a different roadmap.
- A slot is a position in the plan, not necessarily a named course. It may offer the student a choice among several approved courses.
- Everything a slot carries — its type, options, locations, prerequisites and notes — is set in one place: the requirement wizard.
TRY IT IN THE PORTAL
- Sign in and open any published roadmap with the eye icon.
- Pick a single row in Year 1 Fall and click the three dots to open the slot detail.
- Read the Options tab. Note whether that slot is one fixed course or a choice, and how many choices the student gets.

By the end of this module, you can say which role you have, what it lets you change, and why you can see things you cannot edit.
Who can do what
Each role contains the one inside it. Reviewer works differently.
Manager
Everything an Editor can do, plus:
- Assign reviewers to a submission
- Start the review and notify reviewers
- Grant portal access to other people
Editor
Everything a View Only user can do, plus:
- Edit an existing roadmap
- Duplicate a roadmap
- Add a New Roadmap
- Run Catalog Year Rollover
- Submit a roadmap for review
View Only
Every user can:
- Browse, filter and search every roadmap
- Open any roadmap read-only
- See all reference tables
Manager assigns → Reviewer
Reviewer
Reviewer is not an access level. You become a reviewer only when a Manager assigns you to one specific submission.

The rule to remember
Access controls what you can change, not what you can see. Every role sees every roadmap, published or not, and every reference table.

TRY IT IN THE PORTAL
- Look at the left navigation. If Add New Roadmap and Catalog Year Rollover are greyed out, you have View Only access.
- Look at any result row on Browse Roadmaps. Count how many icons are active: one means View Only, three means Editor or Manager.
- Open Roadmap Workspace. If you can see the Manage Reviewers tab, you are a Manager.
