At UTRGV School of Medicine, our Department of Primary and Community Care provides comprehensive primary care, preventive services, and care management to individuals, families, and communities across the Rio Grande Valley. Training medical students is at the heart of our mission, helping us transform the health of our region.

We bring together experts in women’s and children’s health, family medicine, internal medicine, integrated behavioral health, population health, residency programs, and cutting-edge research. Our strong community partnerships—including the Area Health Education Centers—allow us to expand access, promote health equity, and meet the unique needs of the Rio Grande Valley.

As someone who grew up in the Rio Grande Valley, built a career in primary care, and raised my family here, I am deeply honored to serve as Chair.
