Research Learning Opportunities

At the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine (UTRGV SOM), we believe that fostering a culture of collaboration and research begins with cultivating students interest in research. In alignment with the UTRGV Strategic Plan, the School of Medicine fosters student success in research by providing research education and training to medical students, medical residents and graduate degree-seeking students. The School of Medicine strives to cultivate student interest in research by supporting research initiatives aimed at improving research knowledge and research capacity in the UTRGV community. In support of the national goal to make advancements in biomedical research and clinical trials, the School of Medicine will produce students with the necessary knowledge and skills in the area of basic research and will contribute to the growth of the global biomedical research workforce. Students engaged in research will benefit from learning the research process and will gain critical thinking skills that will serve and make them more competitive in their future endeavors as physicians and scientists.
